    Xikar Scribe in the Wind

My experience matches radio807's. Butane lighters (for me, an Old Boy) taste the best, and I can usually find a still place to get my pipe lit. Pop into the garage, up against a wall, etc. If I'm going out, and just don't want to mess with it, I gas up the Zippo.

    What Happend to Knox Cigar?

I was in there on a vacation to Knoxville. Very fond memories of that visit. Wasn't the name of their blends Tavern Tobacco? I recall a Perique blend that was excellent!

    Half a Bowl?

As long as the bowl still tastes good, yes, I'd advise dumping the ash and relighting. Depending on what tobacco is being smoked, sometimes the last bits are the tastiest. I agree with mmjk in that you shouldn't take it too seriously, but I also don't think there's anything wrong with working...

    Identifying This Pipe

A friend of mine who collects Custombilts, who is not a member of this forum, asked me to pass this on. "He has a Caroleer manufacurted by Custombilt pipe company, made from Mountain Laurel from the carolinas during world war two when briar was hard to get." Hope that helps!

    Oxidation Removel

+1 on oxyclean. I used it for the first time on a really old, nasty estate pipe, and it came out very clean (but matte/dull). Followed by Brebbia pipe polish, lots of hard rubbing, and Obsidian oil, it's good as new.

    Tasting Tobacco Observation

That is interesting... makes you wonder what is accumulating. Is the flavor saturating his palate? Is the nicotine accumulation part of it? Is it simply the longer timeframe allowing flavors to "come to him" versus seeking them out? I know I've drank a blend of coffee all day long, and then...

    Tasting Tobacco Observation

Lately I've been breaking in a few new pipes, and I've been experimenting with using an easy-to-smoke, neutral, dry tobacco to try to do so (in my case, Five Brothers). What I've noticed is that if I immediately follow a bowl of burley with a bowl of anything else (in a different, broken-in...
