    What Smoking Lamp Is Lit?

The intro to every show says, "The smoking lamp is lit!" What I want to know is: what kind of lamp? Does Brian actually use one of alcohol lamps (Lampe Berger)? I've always assumed those were more for perfuming than anything else... Inquiring minds (or at least one) want to know.

Heard an Interesting Stat at the Pipe Club Meeting but I Don't Know If I Believe

lestrout has it right. Every other pipe smoker I've run into offline (admittedly, not a huge number) has been smoking an aromatic, usually a vanilla blend. These are all guys who probably do not collect pipes, go to pipe shows, attend pipe club meetings, or post in online forums. We're all...

So What's the Deal With Captain Black

I think that part of experience of being in a club like this (I don't have a local pipe club, but I have been a member of the local homebrew club for years) is figuring out who in the club 1) really knows their stuff, 2) who is fun to talk to regardless of their knowledge, and 3) who to avoid...

    Cigar Like Tobacco

@hfearly: thanks for the tip, sounds interesting! It looks like it might not be availae in the US, so I'll add it to my "if I see it while traveling" list.

    Ghosts

Every blend will leave its mark. It's just a matter of how strong the ghost comes through when switching blends. Latakia blends and most aromatics leave the longest lasting impression. Virginia and Burley are the most "transparent." Blends with Perique and Oriental(non-Latakia) components are...

    Small Bowl Pipe Recommendation?

I'd suggest Sebastien Beo (I got mine at smokingpipes.com), a nice affordable line of classic shaped pipes.

Need Something With Over the Top Taste but not Smoky

I've always found more taste in cigars. I very rarely smoke cigars, but when I do, it always surprises me how much more flavor I get when the actual tobacco is in my mouth. Just an observation. Flavor in pipe smoke seems to be limited to sweetness, sour/tangy, and maybe a little "meatiness"...

How Often Do You Clean Your Pipes?

Personally, fter break-in, I let my pipes rest for at least 7 days between smokes, using only a few pipe cleaners after each smoke. After 5-7 smokes, I disassemble and deep clean with alcohol, and do any needed exterior maintenance. I usually batch up a small group to deep clean all together...

What Are You Smoking? *January 2013*

Nothing! I'm on a business trip, and planned to change my reservation to a smoking room only to find that this is a "non-smoking hotel." Good thing I got a couple of bowls in while shoveling snow before I left home. Now, excuse me while I go sadly sniff my tin of Nightcap.

    Pipe Rotation Question

Regaress of your normal rotation, I think you are fine over-smoking your pipes for a few days while traveling. Just give them a good cleaning and rest them when you get home. In my experience, pipes don't get sour/nasty unless you really overdo it for quite a while.
