Cigar Leaf and Red Virginia: What Are They Exactly?

I too found Cosmic's post quite enlightening. I think what Cosmic was saying is that all of the Virginias are processed in some way, and Red VA is merely a point on that spectrum, presumably towards the middle of the spectrum, as I assume the yellow and orange are heated less than red, and the...

    Weeds and Seeds !!

Awesome! I too recently benefited from JBD's generosity, and received the Sacred Cornplanter seeds and some of the tobaccos you list above. They are delightful. I will post reviews soon.

    GQ Tobacco

These are indeed dark days for Europe. “Obesity is killing more people than smoking, you could ban chip shops, you could ban doughnuts. The point is we are big enough and ugly enough to make our own decisions.” - [redacted] (Can't attribute the quotation without turning the thread political.)

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. Happy Brown Bogie Twist

saltedplug-- I'm unsure to whom your post was directed. (Generally when someone posts in a thread without replying specifically the the poster above them, or naming someone, that means they are responding to the OP, which would be me.) But anyway, I'm in total agreement with you. I don't believe...

In Addition To Nicotine, There Is Something About Burley

I've always felt that the nicotine in burley hits me in the mouth and throat a lot. I'll feel niccups, constricting throat, numb lips, etc. I also get a tad more queasiness with burley when I overdo it. With the strong VA ropes like Gawith, I get far more lightheaded, but none of the other...

    Mapacho as Strong as Twist

Within the next week or so I'll have had the opportunity to partake of three different strains of N. rustica, and I'll write up a report and link here.

Tobacco Rehydration Discs: Where To Find In The UK.

Right, missed that. Over here we have very small jars. I keep all mine in an old liquor box that has all the dividers for bottles. It's a very compact way to store it. Most of my jars will only hold about 2 ounces at most, so a 50g tin pretty much fills it to the top. But they may not be...

    Most Underrated Tobaccos

My guess is that there are quite a few underrated blends out there, especially given the variance of taste. For me, Gawith & Hoggarth Dark Birsdeye is quite underrated. To my palate, it has everything I look for in a tobacco--full flavor, huge nic hit, and what's more, unlike many Gawith...

    Mapacho as Strong as Twist

I think I got a bit of a nic hit just from viewing that picture. EDIT: Also, great that I'm one of the few on the forums who absolutely loves cloves & cinnamon flavoring.

C&D Big and Burley; D&R Picayune

Yeah, Picayune is not even necessarily harsh in a bad way... it's hard to find the right adjective. It's like calling black coffee "bitter"--that's true, but if you like black coffee, you enjoy that bitterness, and adding sweetness would ruin it. That's how I think of Picayune--it may not be...

MSO489 And His Famous Tin Of Aged Royal Yacht.

Smoking the bowl last night I was struck by this. It seems Dunhill blends (those I've tried) come at a perfect moisture and burn beautifully. Not a must for me, but certainly a plus.

MSO489 And His Famous Tin Of Aged Royal Yacht.

I've always felt it was a port aroma from the Royal Yacht. It has a dry, fermented whiff to it that makes me say port over plum. That said, I only really detect it in the tin note, not the smoke itself.

Tobacco Rehydration Discs: Where To Find In The UK.

The problem can be avoided for future tins with small mason jars: after opening the tin, empty into jar, and screw lid on tightly. There won't be any loss of moisture. This is my go-to method since I don't smoke as frequently as most here, and it can take me a while to even get through a 50g...

MacBaren - "HH Old Dark Fired"

I've been meaning to pick up some of this for a while--it sounds right up my alley. Thanks for the review. I have to stop coming on the review forum, though--it's inciting my TAD to unseemly proportions.

Best Way To Smoke Aromatics? Erinmore Flake

The fold and stuff method seemed like it would require some virtuosic smoking skills when I first saw it, but I tried it with some Ennerdale Flake the other day and it worked quite nicely. I was surprised. It might be worth a try. I've used cube cut as well, but found it not substantially...

C&D Big and Burley; D&R Picayune

I've heard Burley #1 will put hair on your chest. Not that I'm lacking, but it never hurts. OJK and Semois are on my Burley list, but I'm a bit behind on purchasing due to some cigar purchases for friends that set me back a bit. (Semois is technically a Burley, no?)

MSO489 And His Famous Tin Of Aged Royal Yacht.

This post inspired me to revisit Royal Yacht last night. I did a comparison with G&H Dark Birdseye--another blend that seems in the same basic neighborhood--high nicotine, Dark VA, but no top note like RY. I smoked Royal Yacht first and was reminded how bracing this tobacco was. I most commonly...

Malawi Dark Fired Leaf: What Is It Exactly?

Haha, yes. I actually gravitate towards non-aromatic--my smoking is probably 90% non-aro, but I do enjoy the occasional aromatic here and there, and don't even find Lakelands offensive.

Looking forward to giving this a try, especially after reading the following. 8O Okay, so I added that last sentence.
