C&D Big and Burley; D&R Picayune

One thing I'll add: last week I had my little pipe gathering. I have one buddy who always wants to smoke something strong to finish, and so far I've had him cycle through Gawith Dark Flake, Royal Yacht, Gawith Brown and Black Ropes, Five Brothers, Irish Flake, etc. He enjoys those. This week I...

    Dunhill Flake: Review With Pictures.

Lovely review, and thanks for the pictures.

    Three New Dunhill Blends

I'm simply in love with the Dark Flake and Ye Olde Signe tin art. (The other is nice too, but nothing new.) I really love the Dunhill tins in general. They also look quite tasty, as both contain "Dark Virginia," which is I believe a sort of leaf I like a lot.

Malawi Dark Fired Leaf: What Is It Exactly?

I have to agree--this was sort of what I was inquiring about in my last thread where I exposed my own ignorance, but it does seem that sort of bracing leaf is a component in many blends I've enjoyed quite a bit.

    R.I.P. Motzek Strang

I never got a chance to try this, but it sounded right up my alley. I hope the new owners will revive it.

Best Way To Smoke Aromatics? Erinmore Flake

My experience is that aromatics require a bit more of a laid-back approach. There is a thinner edge on which to smoke, so to speak--smoke too slowly, and it goes out, smoke too quickly, and it becomes a bit acrid. That said, I've found Lane aromatics (such as 1-Q) are pretty forgiving, as are...

    It's a BFBOBFFB Morning

"Egregious"? I can't stand it when people try to show off with ostentatious effusions of sesquipedalian verbosity.

MSO489 And His Famous Tin Of Aged Royal Yacht.

I think Royal Yacht is a bit stronger than Nightcap in the nicotine department, but it's been a while since I've smoked it. It could be an older tin, though smoother and perhaps more sublime in flavor, could have lost a little bit of its punch. :)

    Mapacho as Strong as Twist

Interestingly, it sounds like this is the next Tambolaka! I always wondered about Tambolaka after reading descriptions... how are people even certain it's tobacco they're smoking? Hah.

    Mapacho as Strong as Twist

If you're offering to send samples, I'd love to grab one and maybe compare it to some from another seller, but no biggie if not. I will probably order from a website rather than eBay--not that it makes it necessarily any more reputable, but what you're describing certainly piques my curiosity!

    Mapacho as Strong as Twist

Very interesting info. Will order some and let people know how it goes. Good point about the cigar method--wouldn't want to waste it if I couldn't finish more than a few puffs.

    Mapacho as Strong as Twist

This is exciting that it seems like a popular product. I'm seeing on eBay there are quite a lot of sellers. Any of you guys with growing knowledge like jitter have any advice on best place to purchase? I'd actually be tempted to smoke those sticks like cigars....

    Mapacho as Strong as Twist

I'm going to order some of this from a web store. Didn't know eBay carried them. Fun!

This Genre Which is Not One - African-Grown VA Leaf? RY, Gawith Twists, &c

Awesome, will do! I have been actually researching growing tobacco over the past few days. Again, apologize for my ignorance. I started the thread to learn, and I certainly have.

The Cutting of the Condor Plug

These threads are going to persuade me to drop a little extra cash and try some of these blends that are a tad more difficult to come by here in the U.S.!

This Genre Which is Not One - African-Grown VA Leaf? RY, Gawith Twists, &c

Interesting. I am really interested in the twists, so I'll have to pick up some Cotton Boll. Any other Rustica products you might recommend? Do you know anything about N. Rustica bundles like this? Worth buying? Smokeable? http://visionaryherbs.com/nicotiana_rustica_tobacco_bundles.htm

    Va/Per Taste

Those 1881 Perique's look pretty cool indeed. I've actually been looking for some interesting cigar offerings for my little pipe/cigar club!

This Genre Which is Not One - African-Grown VA Leaf? RY, Gawith Twists, &c

Thanks for the info, guys! So, the upper leaves with more nicotine are actually less desirable? Interesting. Jitter, do you happen to know if any growers use N. rustica in pipe tobacco, or is it just mostly used for harvesting nicotine for pesticides, etc.?

    Va/Per Taste

Va/Pers are a little more subtle to my palate. I actually really enjoyed Savinelli Doblone d'Oro because it's a VaPer with some extra stuff thrown in that adds a little more flavor. It's interesting, cigars actually taste "less" than stronger pipe tobacco to me. Their aroma is much more intense...
