Recommended American Artisans For a Commission

For me, at that price point (and even a tier above that), C. Kent Joyce just can't be beaten. Also you may want to check out Sean Reum, who is starting to make very good blasts. For outside the US, I would recommend Gustavo Cunha from Martelo pipes. For me, his blasts are the best out of the...

What's Your Strangest Pipe Selling/Buying Story?

I'm good friends with the couple who owns the B&M close to my house. One day they got hold of the estate of a collector and wanted me to have one of his pipes, a kkkk "Castello" grade cherrywood. They asked so little money for it that I had to refuse as I felt they could get a much much better...

    Famous Living Pipe Smokers

Quentin Tarantino was filmed smoking that calabash Hans Landa owned from Inglorious Basterds.

Could You Buy A Pipe Blindfolded?

Well... In this scenario am I allowed to feel the button of the pipe on my lips? I'm actually a very tactile pipe smoker. Billiards look and feel good in the hand, so those are at the top on my list. Love the look of volcanoes, but hate how they feel in the hand, so that goes down. Not a fan...

    Castello Pipe Shapes

So following my last post I searched a lot for the perfect first Castello pipe as someone who doesn't really like neoclassical shapes. And I did find this cute little sea rock pot with an army mount and was saving some money so I could purchase it. And then my local B&M got hold of an estate...

James Upshall Pipes - A Discussion

Hey, @kenbarnes! I have just acquired another JU and I'm eager to see if you could tell me something about it. I'm placing it in the 80s after '83 like the other one I got by following the same clues (stam positioning). Am I right? This one is also a lovely bent bulldog and a B grade!

    Hungarian Rhapsody

I don't own a Briarworks hungarian but I do own a Moonshine Pipe of the Year (the Oompalachian). It's my home desk pipe and I'm always puffing it away while reading stuff on the internet or working at home. One of my favorite pipes.

    Inheritance of 200 pipes.

Sorry for your loss. First of all, I would at least try smoking a pipe or two for some time and see whether the love for pipe smoking is ingrained in your DNA or not. It would be very sad to start enjoying this hobby and be heartbroken that you got rid of your dad's collection.

Hate The Smell, Love the Taste?

We have a local mixture prepared by a boutique blender here in Brazil called "Little Witch - Corda Brasilis" which combines different regional rope tobacco from all over the country. The smell is foul and send shivers down my spine every time I dare to take a whiff out of the jar, but the taste...

    Pipes You Never Liked Before

I dislike bent billiards (has to be straight), Oom Pauls, army mounts, Rhodesians (gotta have that diamond shank) and pokers that don't sit.

How Long Can You Survive With One Pipe

I went two full years with a single cob when I began smoking pipes - and I smoked it daily, sometimes more than once. Still got that cob.

    Muletown Pipe Show

Hey, did anyone see the Moonshine corn cob pipe that will be available at the show? It is a beauty, and I believe it is the first flush fit corn cob I've ever seen. My cob days are long past but I really like this one. Would any of you be willing to buy one for me and send it overseas to me...

    In Praise of Bones

I only own the one short poker. It's my dedicated office pipe: it sits on my workdesk and is a trusty companion for my everyday after lunch smoking breaks. They are also cheap because the briar they use is full of blemishes (no fillings though, which I prefer). I don't really think Bones look...

Fun Restoration on a Stanwell 86

that Sixten guy sure knew how to design a pipe. I simply love the 86. Must have been a real joy to revive such a pipe. Congrats!

    My First DIY Pipe

Gerryp, this is an inspiring thread, thank you for showing us your first pipe. I have recently purchased my first pipe kit too and I hope to do 10% as well as you did having myself no experience with woodworking, pipemaking or anything crafty at all. I think I can manage initial shaping with a...

    New MM 150th Anniversary Pipe

I was really really tempted to get this one but I don't think I would smoke it too much as I hardly smoke cobs anymore. But oh how I longed for a corndog back in my cob days! I'm really happy that the dream has come true for other people at least. And I think this one look better than the first!

    Best Estate Pipe Find

Most likely my pristine James Upshall Grade G bent bulldog which I paid around 80 dollars for.
