Hate The Smell, Love the Taste?

im working through 2oz of C&D Caps blend and i swear the stuff smells like mulch to me. if i open the jar around my wife she about gags. however, i love the way it smokes and honestly its become one of my favs. so 2 questions - are there any blends that you hate their tin note but love smoking them? and anyone know of any blends similar to Caps Blend that perhaps have a better tin note?

When I opened my one and only tin of C&D Burley Flake #3, it smelled like Play-Doh mixed with something rancid.

I sure did enjoy smoking it, though.

We have a local mixture prepared by a boutique blender here in Brazil called "Little Witch - Corda Brasilis" which combines different regional rope tobacco from all over the country. The smell is foul and send shivers down my spine every time I dare to take a whiff out of the jar, but the taste is sweet and savoury, almost "umami" if you will - simply divine. Very difficult to compare to readily available tins in the US.

Tastes like a turd or smells like a fart! This is a common problem with pipe tobacco and may go along way to explaining a lot about the people who smoke pipes. Personally I have always loved the tin note of some of the coffee/chocolate aromatics. The minute I try to smoke any of them I get a scorched tongue and the taste of chocolate/coffee ash tray water. I am sure I am missing out on something but then this forum has its fair share of rose geranium haters. I guess it take all sorts to make a world. Now about that Brylon bowled Falcon Pipe ......

I agree usually if it smells great it tastes bad when smoking.
If it smells bad then it’s taste when smoking divine.

I have a similar working theory for Chinese restaraunts. The worse the music is, the better the food.

I find the opposite to be true more often: I love the smell but not necessarily the taste.

I really like the Belgium variant burley that spell check won't let me spell correctly -- Tabac Manil Sem oh I es. But in the package, very dry, it smells exactly like stable sweepings, not repulsive, but oddly pre-digested. Yet the smoke, as a room note or flavor, is vibrant burley with refined nuances. It reminds me a little of the coffee that has the beans run through the digestive tract of civet cats.

When I opened my first pouch of Ennerdale Flake I didn't like the smell at all and it was a while before I even smoked a bowl as I was sure I'd hate it.
Bowl by bowl I began to love it more and more and by the time I'd finished the pouch I immediately ordered another.
I still don't like the smell anywhere near as much as the taste but I have grown to appreciate its fragrant, pungent odor.

I was gifted a tin of H&H White Knight dated 2015. I opened it and my first thought was "I'd never buy this but I guess I should at least try it." SO glad I did!! It tastes great, and has more flavor than anything I've tried to date including my Navy flake I so love.
