If You Could Only Have One Pipe...

Alan Brothers fairmount, the first version. Compact, sturdy, surprisingly thin button for a handfinished pipe.

    Poker Recommendations

Funny. My journey mirrors yours in reverse. I started with pokers for its utilitarian aspects but now I'm a straight billiard man. I do miss sitting pipes, though. It really depends on what's your budget, but for 40 bucks you can get a Morgan Bones short/stubby poker which was my office desk...

    Big Returns From Small Pipes

I'm on the small bowl camp. In my experience smaller bowls smoke cooler, stay lit better and last longer (in proportion) than regular bowls or larger. I struggle with diameters of 20mm or larger. To me, the ideal bowl is around 18mm wide and around 35mm deep.

    $1000+ Pipes

Chasingembers, now that you mention I am on the lookout for new friends. Maybe you should introduce me to some of yours? :col:

    $1000+ Pipes

I own a couple of higher grade pipes priced around $300-400. I enjoy the experience of comissioning a pipe or of coming upon the perfect artisan estate pipe. The pipe themselves are usually more carefully built in fit, finish and design and I believe they are worth the purchase for me. Stems are...

"3 Year old Dunhill" Available at SPC

I didn't care too much for the last iteration of Dunhill blends and never had any of the old stuff. But I feel for everyone who will miss them as we are all tobacco orphans in some way or another. And this last batch went out pretty fast. Congratulations to anyone here who was able to make one...

Which Famous Blends Have You Never Tried?

I'm sure you're right. I was a fan of VAs from McC which all seemed to be just like what you described there. I'll remember that when I finally try my Escudo for the first time.

Which Famous Blends Have You Never Tried?

Here in Brazil we don't have easy access to much. Every famous blend that you guys are lucky to take for granted is equally hard to find around these parts, more or less... So it's a long list for me. Having said that, it's funny but I'm also sitting on a tin of Escudo for the past five years...

    Hello from Korea!

반갑습니다! I'm a Brazilian-born korean, welcome to the forum and to the greatest hobby in the world. If you ever need a friend to talk about pipes, tobacco and life in general, shoot me a PM.

Could Ghosting Actually be a Good Thing?

I thought about that one a lot. I have some Frog Morton stashed away that I was planning to smoke in a dedicated pipe to make a "Frog-Morton-ghosted" pipe for my endless enjoyment... I believe the ghost effect can potentially add another dimension to whatever you smoke in the pipe, just like...

    My New Askwith!

Polyester looks better than acrylic to me, congrats!

    My New Askwith!

Chris Askwith is one of my favorite carvers and an all-around nice guy to talk to. I'm not too much into neoclassical shapes but that one is killing it. Is that really acrylic though? I thought he favored polyester stems.

How to Maintain Vulcanite Stems Easy and Safe?

I guess since olive oil is a perishable product that makes sense, but I can tell you it hasn't happened yet to me even though some of those pipes are not handled too much. Maybe I should switch before it does since I already have lots of mineral oil for knife care.

How to Maintain Vulcanite Stems Easy and Safe?

I heard the stories but mine never did, for some reason. Maybe people are using unfiltered olive oil?

How to Maintain Vulcanite Stems Easy and Safe?

Immediately after each smoke I will thoroughly dry the stem. After the pipe has cooled down a bit, I give it a thin coat of olive oil and that's it. I have no reason to prefer olive over mineral but I do.

    Rustication Discussion

To me, the texture of a pipe in the hand is very important. So I like rusticated pipes. At the moment I own four of them: The first one is a very small rusticated billiard by Dagner. I'm not a fan of the brand but I do enjoy small pipes and came upon it very cheap. A really like the texture...

    What Makes a Good Pipe?

To me if the fit is good, the airhole drilling is open and meets the bottom of the chamber nicely, the tenon is beveled, stem funneling is decent and the button is thin and rounded, then such pipe is already a best smoker. Some of those are more important than others and you can have a pipe that...

What Do You Like Or Dislike About An Oom Paul?

That's a very interesting piece! Who is the maker?

What Do You Like Or Dislike About An Oom Paul?

I dislike pipes that are too big, so lucky me someone thought of making a cute little oom paul for when I have some work or reading to do. Don't mind the messy desk, I'm working!

Smoking Pipes 20% Off Sale. Post Your Pics Here!

You know, with this corona virus business I've decided to save and refrain from buying pipes. Also, the exchange rate for BRL to USD is insane right now. But 20% is too good of a deal to pass up. I hate smokingpipes and this awful pipe they made me purchase.
