***What Are You Smoking, September, 2023?***

Smoking Germain Brown Flake in a Tabako Collegium pot, a pipe about which @virkia has some information though we have not seen him in a year or so. I wonder where he is.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

For starters, this nice tin of Dunhill Durbar that we (Fred Hanna did the honors) opened at the Chicago show this year. The tin belonged to Elliot Abel who ran the Tobacco Corner in Tennessee. He passed away and his son, who runs Mitchell Thomas distribution, sold off his tins and cigars (and...

    Solani Aged Burley Flake

I buy ~10 tins of ABF from Estervals since it's in stock practically year round. And about a half to a third cheaper than prices here.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Anything in particular you wanted to see? 🙏 Not pictures of mold I hope. 😂

    Fake Latakia???

An industry insider will be along any minute now to copy-paste their social media rumor control. Personally? I've been smoking a pipe for nearly 30 years and I've come across multiple instances of Latakia that looks and tastes "fake". The use of these types of "enhanced" components such as...

    Recent TAD Pick-Ups

Technically these are 250g bags, and not the 500g bags that cost £208.

    Fryer's & Co.

Steve Norse from Vermont Freehand had a tin of this stuff just before the Chicago Pipe Show, and I emailed him what information I could find from the periodicals I had on hand. I think he did open it but I don't recall having read a review / reaction / autopsy.

For How Long do you Mash/Brew/Infuse your Tea?

Imagine not having five minutes to brew a proper cup of tea.

Popularity Of The Cutty Style Pipe.

Looks like a forward canted apple to me rather than a curry, but who am I to judge...?

    Patent Sasieni Date Range?

It is wise to have a healthy suspicion of the information in Pipedia and to check primary sources where possible. Case in point, while reviewing the Pipedia Sasieni page and its contributions and contributors I came across a Sasieni Friar [1] [2] that had been fitted with a WDC "Yo-Ho .. A...

You Can't Take it with You- Or Can You?

When it is time for me to put down my pipes, I will have already carefully chosen their next stewards who will receive them along with any information I might have about their history and previous owners. The pipes, to me, evoke the tsukumogami: "To some pipe collectors it may seem odd that...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

Somewhere on eBay a Leeds-era Ben Wade has been fitted with a copper ring and mesh screen to make it suitable for "cannabis consumption". I honestly never thought I'd see the day.

Who is the Greatest Living Artisan Pipe Maker?

For my part I'm waiting to see what the five best replies are.

[REFERENCE] Things I Found in My Tobacco

I certainly couldn't decide whether crystals are good or bad on your behalf---I personally tend to associate it with well-aged tobacco so I consider it a "plus". Sounds to me like you're in for a treat!

Who is the Greatest Living Artisan Pipe Maker?

I met Yiannos Kokkinos just now at the Chicago Show. I'm very traditional in my tastes so I don't own pipes with such modern designs. But he was a very, very nice fellow.

    Ashdigger’s 1904 Peterson Meer

I wish I had these faux-amber acrylic stems for all my old pipes. That look of cloudy old amber is killer.

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

I'm very glad you censored the website information for that auction before posting the photo. I remember 2 - 3 years ago before the genie was let out of the bottle that lots like the one you posted were still accessible to the average collector. In the spirit of this subforum we don't divulge...

[REFERENCE] Things I Found in My Tobacco

I am but a humble servant to others for the skills that God has bestowed upon me. 😌 I seem to recollect that Kolhase & Kopp have a strong presence in your country based on things I've gleaned Instagram at least, so---tin age notwithstanding---any contaminated McConnell that should happen to...

Interesting Completed Ebay Auctions - British Pipes

I would like to know which poor soul paid $157 for this "Underboar" with a double-comfort stem. https://www.ebay.com/itm/166293903486 The value might be perhaps that it is somehow proof that time travel is possible?

[REFERENCE] Things I Found in My Tobacco

That was the fellows analyzing the things growing on cigars, if I recall correctly. I think that with pipe tobacco 90% of inquiries could be addressed with a good magnifying glass, or even some of the inexpensive low-power microscopes that are available nowadays.
