After seeing the acrylic P-Lip’s I’d been making for some of my pipes @ashdigger asked me if I would make an acrylic P-Lip for his 1904 Peterson meer that Ryan Alden had saved and made 3 stems for. I’ve now dubbed this pipe the Swipe Pipe (Swatch Watch) because of its collection of interchangeable colored stems, one for every outfit or occasion. He sent me two other pipes that he wanted bone chimneys for, after receiving the pipes and looking over the three stems and repairs that Ryan had done. It took a bit to realize that I had some pretty big shoes to fill as my stem would forever be alongside Ryan’s stems, he’s a consummate carver and repairman who does this for a living, I am an amateur who does this for fun. I spent a lot time measuring Ryan’s work because if my dimensions did not match his perfectly I could actually damage the pipe. I elected to use white delrin as opposed to the black that Ryan had used as the semi transparent amber acrylic I was using would show a black tenon through the stem more than it would a white one. The white also acts to more simulate the bone tenon that would have been used on the pipe originally. Anyway here’s the pipe.
