    What's a Morta with you?

Ryan Alden Morta bent Brandy: I find it to be quite neutral, especially good with VaPer blends and Orientals. It is lightweight, about the size of a Dunhill 3. Davorin Golden Morta: This one seems to favor Latakias, is a larger, heavier pipe, about a group 5. The only way to know is to...

    Obligatory Non-Political Thread

My pipe smoking adventures began with the typical drug store Aros, and I was introduced to 1Q early, the other shop blends, and only recently delved into some of the old codger blends. Haven't really tried Prince Albert, either in the can or the pouch. Much like trying a tobacco to see which...

    Samuel Gawith and additives

Tobacco was not smoked by the native Americans for the taste, folks. It was smoked for the calming, thought enhancing, spiritual effects. We smoke it for the taste AND the way we feel while consuming those succulent vapors.

    Tried to speak English today

Try it in a corncob. I like it in a briar, myself, but the corncobs add a little sweetness that you might find pleasing, especially after a diet of aromatics. I find that I like Early Morning Pipe and Royal Yacht better in a cob. Might work for you.

    The Pipe Test

I don't think I could tell the difference in a blind test. Over the years, I have let the pipe determine what tobaccos smoke best in each one, and sometimes a stellar combination reveals itself. But that may have more to do with the tobacco, the time of day, and ambient air temp than the pipe...

All these bowls, what's the difference?

The outside shape is aesthetics; the chamber size, shape, and ratio has an effect on different tobaccos, though there are no set rules. I think tall, narrow chambers are best for Virginia tobaccos and flakes, and wide 1:1 ratio chambers open up really complex tobaccos. Conical chambers...

Ropp Vintage *with fitted horn steam- first impression

I purchased a sandblasted billiard with the horn stem when they first became available. Pros: light weight, good drilling, excellent smoking qualities. Cons: the soft bone stem is comfy for me but quickly acquired teeth marks from clenching. I like the idea of trying different stem materials...

    Esoterica question

Margate is really good, I think I like it better than Penzance. I am in the camp that believes the tinned is better than the bagged, btw. I have some bagged Penzance that was never as good as what I have had in tins. The missus got me a tin of Tilbury, but I found it plain, mixed some Perique...
