Flavor Profile of Capstan Gold vs. Blue?

I enjoyed my now depleted tin of Capstan Blue quite a lot, and I'm curious about how the Gold compares, especially in the sweetness catagory. Thanks in advance!

Seeking Opinions on Fribourg & Treyer Blends

I'll be ordering the special brown and cut plug soon. Those two seem to get lots of love around here.

    Grrrrrrrrr! Flakey Flakes.

I'm fairly certain I'm not drying this tobacco enough. I had a relatively good smoke yesterday with the BF, but had many relights. Today I had fewer relights but the stuff really bit. Incidentally, I used a different pipe. Dang it! Sometimes those reds bite. A follow up question if I may...

    Grrrrrrrrr! Flakey Flakes.

I'm having a rough time getting a handle on McC's Blackwoods Flake. It's the most unmanageable flake I've smoked to date. I've tried both cube cutting and rubbing out (along with plenty of drying time). But I'm constantly relighting and never really getting a good draw. While I enjoy the...

    Your "Go To" Tobacco

    Lately, Anniversary Kake.

    Good Bulk Virginia

Another fan of McC's 5100 here. If you're not too sensitive to red Virginia, this is definitely worth cellaring. This stuff is especially good after aging.

    Strangest Blend You've Ever Smoked.

Title says it all. I'm not so much interested in whether you disliked what you've smoked, but whether the blend was so strange that you found it difficult to decide whether you'd smoke it again. For me, just about any lat blend is strange, but I'm sure others have had more interesting smoking...

Anniversary Kake Has Me Confused About Perique.

Harris, The blend was just too peppery for me. I could detect an underlying sweetness, but it was competing too much with flavors I don't care for, at least given my current tastes. I immediately lit up some Anniversary Kake afterward. Sorry I could not give you a more positive report!

Anniversary Kake Has Me Confused About Perique.

Harris, I have some 633 left in a jar. I'll cube cut it today and see what happens. But so far my experience mirrors Roth's.

    Packing Flake Tobacco

I've been having inconsistent smokes with flakes lately. I'm convinced the problem is in the packing of the flake. Some of you indicate a "tight" pack is desirable. Can you explain what you mean by "tight"?

    In Need Of Lighter Repair!

One of my sons dropped an old Lotus lighter of mine. It's my favorite and retailed back in the day at about $80. It's no longer igniting, and I'm not even remotely qualified to diagnose (much less repair) the problem. Any suggestions on finding someone capable of repairing it?

    Royal Yacht

From a divine nectar to a vile weed (if not rhino-ass residue). That's a range that covers all possible assessments, I imagine!

    Royal Yacht

I've noticed that this blend is fairly divisive. People seem to either love it or hate it. One owner of a well-established tobacco shop I met called it "Royal Yuck." Yet it appears to have some fans here. What is this blend like? And why does it provoke such contrasting reactions?

Anniversary Kake Has Me Confused About Perique.

Rather than starting a new thread about AK, let me just reiterate Roth's assessment of this blend. It's really fantastic, and I've been smoking it almost exclusively the last few days. I'm not terribly good at identifying specific flavors in tobacco (same with wine), but AK is a sweeter...

Four New Samuel Gawith Virginia Flakes

    Cigar Blends

If you like burleys, you might also try Storm Front. While it doesn't taste like a cigar, it has a nice, sweet/smokey flavor by virtue of the cigar leaf. And (for me) it has absolutely no bite.

    My First - Dunhill Flake

Good info, there, Pipestud. Were you at the Baylor game last night?

    Let's Talk Nicotine!

Pipe smokers vary in their nic-level preferences. I'm curious, however, if you desire even a slight 'nic hit,' even if you prefer milder tobacco. For my part, I enjoy mild to medium-strength tobacco, as I smoke in order to relax, and a mild nicotine hit certainly helps in that regard. The strong...

Finally! Found a Pipe For Capstan Blue

Number6, I'm the wrong person to ask, and I admit that-in my case-the recent smoking experience may have had nothing to do with the shape of the briar or stem. Maybe my pipes need a good cleaning! In any case, I've read about others changing pipes to get a more enjoyable smoke, and I simply...
