    Red Virginia Sensitivity -- Symptoms?

As I read more about this, it appears that some people are inclined to get tongue bite when smoking reds. I'm not wholly immune to this, sadly. Burleys have been giving me grief lately, too.

    Red Virginia Sensitivity -- Symptoms?

I've been reading on here that some of you are highly sensitive to red Virginia tobacco. I've been wondering about my own sensitivity to this particular leaf. For those of you who have these sensitivities, what are the symptoms? How exactly does it affect your tongue? Edit: Corrected...

Please Recommend Some *Sweet* (Less Hay-Like, Non-Aro) Virginias.

That's a wicked lookin' axe ya got there, tarak. And thanks for the recommendation, too! EDIT: thanks to you as well, flyguy.

Thanks Rothnh. I may avoid the AK for now, if only because I'm sensitive to perique when it's used more than a light condiment. Blackwoods Flake is certainly on the list, however. And the name "Fribourg & Treyer Special Brown Flake" alone is enough to compel a purchase.

Vintage Tad -- Balkan Sobranie Cutter Top !!!

$30?? Is Salvation Army selling discarded tobacco now?

Please Recommend Some *Sweet* (Less Hay-Like, Non-Aro) Virginias.

I'm developing quite a sweet tooth when it comes to tobacco. And it's the sweetness of non-aros that I really enjoy. Based on various reviews and recommendations, it looks like both Marlin Flake and Capstan Blue are well worth a try. I've had McC's 5100, HOTW, Old Gowrie, Dunhill Flake, FVF, and...

    Burley Biting Somethin' Awful

I recently purchased some Uhle's tobacco (blend 00 and perfection plug). It's my second round of Uhle's, and for some reason I don't recall these blends biting as bad as they are now. I love the smell and flavor, but the bite is becoming a deterrent. Would mixing these with Carter Hall help...

First Time Smoking Old Gowrie - Delightful!

Thanks for the recommendations, gentlemen. I do love both Dunhill Flake and SG Best Brown. Sadly, I have little tolerance for perique-heavy (or even medium) blends. The Rattray blends have just the right amount for me. Is St. James Woods heavy on the perique?

First Time Smoking Old Gowrie - Delightful!

My first tin of OG came in the mail yesterday. I've had HOTW, which I certainly liked. But what I loved about OG (and what I was not prepared for) was its sweetness. It's a great, mild Virginia that tastes like it has a faint coating of sugar. Or was I imagining this? It is also a bit less...

    Top 5 Burleys

Looks like I will have to pick up a tin of London Burley. It gets a lot of love around here. Also, I read on that review site that Butternut Burley has changed somewhat (This is according to just a few recent reviews). Any truth to this?

Totally forgot to consider OTC brands. I have never tried Prince Albert. But Carter Hall is a good friend to have around.

    Top 5 Burleys

Vs and Latakia blends have their own top 5 threads, so I thought I'd start one for Burleys. Apologies if this thread already exists. My list: 1. Uhle's Blend #00 2. John Patton's Storm Front 3. Wessex Burley Slice (so long as its aged at least a year) 4. Classic Burely Kake 5. (tie) Uhle's...

H&H Classic Burley Cake, Advice Wanted.

I have the same complaint about CBK. It's really great once the casing has weakened (after a year or so). But then are you smoking CBK any longer? Another poster has suggested Altadis's Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match as a tamer alternative. For me, you can't do better than Uhle' s various blends...

Ordering Bulk Burley Soon. Which Has the *Least* Amount of Casing?

Petes03: I've had it, but it has been over a year. As I recall, it was (like all of their burley blends) excellent and more floral than their perfection plug burley. I'm not sure if it was licorice I tasted, however. A good choice for a light aromatic. I still prefer PPB and #00.

    Anyone smoke PS Cube Cut?

I really enjoy the taste and smell of this tobacco. It was my first cube cut burley to smoke. But it bites the hell out of my mouth. This seems to be a common experience with this blend.. I'm wondering if others have had success with it, or if you have mixed it with another tobacco in order to...

Ordering Bulk Burley Soon. Which Has the *Least* Amount of Casing?

EDIT: OK, I can indeed taste the light casing on Uhle's 00. And you're right, Rothnh. I may indeed just make this my go-to blend. I just can't imagine a lightly flavored, "high end" codger burley being better than this. But Altadis ERR is on my list to try, as I'll need a less expensive option...

Ordering Bulk Burley Soon. Which Has the *Least* Amount of Casing?

Incidentally, I just got my Uhle's tobaccos in the mail today. I'm smoking blend 00 right now. So straightforward, so simple, yet incredibly solid. As natural a smoke as I have ever had. Many people who have tried this blend insist it has a light casing. I can't detect any casing, perhaps...

I look forward to trying it. It has been on backorder for a while!

Ordering Bulk Burley Soon. Which Has the *Least* Amount of Casing?

Concerning HB: I don't do too well with perique, so if it is more than a wisp, my mouth will be unhappy. And you might be right about Uhle's blends. I have not found anything I like better. The price is a bummer; I'll try Edgeworth match and see how it goes.
