Any chance you'd expand on this?

    Post-Lighting re-pack.

When I mess up & overpack a bowl - I run a pipe cleaner through the stem as far as possible into the bowl, leave the pipe cleaner in place, & slide the pipe tool pick down along a side wall all the way to the bottom of the bowl. More often than not, this will allow enough air flow to get a...

    Mac Baren's antique store find

Finding an old tin like that is fun. In June 2012 I bought some unopened 7 oz. tins of MacBaren Symphony & Burley London Blend. Both had also been imported by Fireside Industries of New Jersey. I was curious as to the age of these tins so I emailed Mac Baren & received the following reply...

    E Bay Sales

Does this mean that, for income tax purposes, I could deduct the initial cost of the pipes I sold from the gross amount on the 1099? Generally I've been selling my pipes for less than I paid for them & am able to document the original purchase price. If I am able to deduct the initial cost...

    E Bay Sales

Packing to move to a new house last year made me realize the size of my pipe collection had gotten out of hand so I have been slowly thinning the herd by selling on eBay. This past year eBay did indeed change their policy as the OP pointed out. I'm expecting a 1099 at year's end that will...

    C&D tins bulging

I haven't had one burst yet. Closest I've come is a tin of Low Country Waccamaw from 2007 that I found hiding in my cellar in 2020. When I opened it, there was a whoosh of beautifully fermented pipe tobacco. When I put flame to a bowlful it was fantastic!

    Looking for a different flavor

The perfect choice given your request of something to try: Sutliff Maple Walnut. As a big fan of Maple aromatic tobaccos, that's been an ongoing favorite of mine. Other good ones in my experience: 4noggins Essence of Vermont Cornell & Diehl Autumn Evening. Lane Ltd. Rum & Maple...

    Favorite Seasonal Blends?

I'm a sucker for Holiday blends & have tried many over the years. Straus Tobacconists' Sleepy Hollow & Wenceslas are great. I also like Sutliff Pumpkin Spice & Christmas Spice. They are similar (if not identical!) to the Straus offerings. In addition to the delicious Figgy Pudding, The...

    Movies with Pipe Smoking Characters

The other night I watched an enjoyable Edward G. Robinson flick, "Bullets or Ballots", from 1936 with multiple pipe smoking scenes.

    Lighter Full-sized Pipes

Missouri Meerschaum Country Gentleman Bent. Since you're only 6 months into your piping journey you might consider giving one of these a try as a budget-friendly answer to what you seek. Cobs are great smokers, can take lots of abuse, will last for years, & are low maintenance.

    How is Milan Tobaccos?

I'm a big fan of Milan Tobacconists pipe tobaccos. I was in Roanoke in 2007 on business, stopped in their B&M store to check out their tobaccos, & have been buying them ever since. Quality tobaccos that burn well yielding tasty blends, great room notes, & minimal goop. For me worth every...

Sutliff Tobacco Co. Dulce de Leche D58

To me the bulk equivalent of Molto Dolce is Creme Brulee. Dulce de Leche is a totally different animal. While all three of these tobaccos have a caramel/vanilla topping/casing, Dulce de Leche is much more subtle & it doesn't have the significantly sweetening honey topping as do the other two...

Sutliff Tobacco Co. Dulce de Leche D58

Sutliff Dulce de Leche is an aromatic I'd never previously tried. After thoroughly enjoying a couple ounces of it I thought I'd put in a good word since I see it seldom mentioned. It's a bulk Burley/Virginia blend with a caramel/vanilla topping/casing. It arrived quite dry as a chopped ribbon...
