    Flake Pipe

You can ask a dozen smokers and get a dozen responses on what makes the best flake pipe. For me, the thinner chambered pipes seem to get too hot for flakes even with a slow rate of smoking. I prefer a medium sized bowl for flake. Stays cool and that's the important part. I would recommend a...

    G.L. Pease blends

Haddo's Delight, Union Square and Maltese Falcon are the only ones I've tried. I love Haddo's and Maltese Falcon. Union Square not so much but others love it... I'll have to try some aged and see if I like it then

What Are You Smoking - September 2012

A few days ago, I mixed up some Storm Front with some McC Latakia I've had for a few years in a 9:2 ratio. Trying it for the first time tonight in my Pete meer, pretty good so far...

What to age in my cellar?

Virginias will age well for up to 50 years from what I've read. Good ones to go with IMO would be FVF, BBF any of the Rattray's.

    Sam Gawith's Full Virginia Flake

Definitely a favorite here, I have quite a bit aging, the oldest is about three years old now. Can't wait to see what it's like at 10 years.

I only went in for some matches...

Looks like a Killarney 80s on the right there, nice pipe!

    Got my first pipe today!

There is no cure for PAD or TAD... both are relentless! Do yourself a favor and grab yourself a couple Missouri Meerschaum corn cob pipes, they smoke great and will give you a really inexpensive rotation while you are getting started.

    One Pipe, One Tobacco!

I don't have pipes dedicated to blends but I do tend to smoke only burley, VA, VaPer in the same pipes and Latakia blends in other pipes. Aromatics and Latakia blends usually go in my cobs or my meer too.

    Jarring Tobacco

If the tin is sealed, leave it sealed. If it's open, it depends on the tin. Square tins will be emptied and jarred, the tins that C&D, GL Pease, McClelland and Dunhill use tend to keep the tobacco pretty fresh in my opinion. I have a tin of Escudo that I opened a couple years ago that is still...

What do you do with a Blend you do not like?

I jar it up and let it sit for a while. I get back to it eventually and if I still don't like it, I'll let it sit a while longer. Tastes change and no sense in throwing out tobacco. If I notice someone wanting that particular blend, I'll give it or trade it

Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired

I have a tin in the cellar and am anxious to try it but have way too much open already. Big fan of full blends and dark fired flakes. I need to start smoking more or something so I can justify opening another blend

    All The Flake Is Gone

mkvillaire, if you like Virginia flakes, it's definitely one to check out. One of my favorite straight Virginias

    8 matches later...

8 matches for your first bowl is nothing to worry about. I use more than that per bowl on a regular basis. Don't worry about how many matches you use, just enjoy the bowl

    Nic heavy aro?

Gawith & Hoggarth Dark Flake Scented or Samuel Gawith 1792 would be a good place to start

All I Am Wanting To Smoke Is Flake, Cake, And Plug Tobacco Anymore

Like others have said, your tastes will change over time so keep your loose cut blends around. You will smoke them again. I'm a big fan of flakes, plugs and ropes as well. IMO, the best come from Gawith & Hoggarth. They make some great blends, I like the scented and unscented stuff!

    If you could...

I don't regret my first briar purchase at all. I bought a Peterson Shannon 03. While I don't have the pipe anymore, it started me on my love affair with Peterson pipes. I have 8 now, all of them systems 8)

    Looking for Virginia Flakes

Two from Gawith & Hoggarth: Brown Flake and Dark Flake. They both come scented or unscented

An All The Sudden Change In taste:/

This has happened to me time and time again, I gave up Latakia completely a couple years ago but now smoke it on occasion. Blends will grow on you too, just give them time before you decide to ditch them.
