Look at the 'foot' of the pipe. That will tell you if it has been colored through smoking or the pipe has been given the Oxblood treatment. If you look at one my favorite pipes and then compare it to a group photograph taken about eight years ago you can see how the color works on these old pipes. I can dig the pictures out if you want but I don't have @Chasing Embers skills to mark the individual pipe in the group photograph but if compared to a single picture the point both he and myself are making becomes crystal clear.

thumbnail-3.jpegthumbnail-7.jpegOK. Here we go. If you look at the first picture of a group of pipes taken in 2014/2015 you will see at approximately 12 o'clock a silver banded 'cutty' with some degree of color, but not a whole lot. If you then compare that picture with the two pictures of the same pipe taken recently you can see the effects of the pipe being smoked. If you look at the 'foot' of the 'cutty' you can see the effect of smoking the pipe which is distinctly different from oxblood coloring.

One of millions you will never enjoy, germaphobe!
Damn right!

I joke, but it's not actually about the germs. And this sounds like I'm a snob, but I don't like buying used things.

The reason for it, is I want to take all the credit for the wear and tear that's been put on it, and start at the beginning. Pipes, watches, knives etc. Meerschaums especially.

But I have many hand-me-down items.

Cars are a different story most of the time. They are expensive and a necessity where I live. I buy what I can afford lol

New Altinay 9mm straight apple, ran maybe 6 bowls through it already but haven't posted it until now because I just haven't been arsed to do so. I planned to stop investing money in pipes but someone bought one from me at a deal and I was able to basically use that money for this, something more my style and clenchable. I don't often use filters but I reckon I can use the 9mm Savinelli balsa filters I have when I get the notion to use one.

And the listing from the site for more pics and dimensions.

This really is the perfect size for me and I like that wide open draw of a 9mm filter pipe without a filter, reminds me of a cob and works as a mini reverse calabash. 👌🏻

Just picked up this unsigned meer from pipesdepot on ebay. I was really interested in trying a reverse calabash meer in hopes that it would have a nice open draw since there's no connector. I've had trouble with tight draws on meers and was looking for something below the altinay, imp price range.

It's not bad but I went in and drilled the stem to 4mm as far as I safely could. Much better. I really like the classic shape and that it's only a 1.5" bowl depth.
