In 2018 the then Managing Director was “moved” and things immediately began to change. The methods of production that had stood the brand in good stead for over 200 years and bred success, was called into question and declared “wrong”!

Wow, big coincidence that it was 2018. Why does that year sound so familiar?🤔
I'm a little slow.
WTF was 2018?
I barely remember it.

I just love GH and SG Tobacco's, always have, always been welcome when I visited them, when they were two separate company's, I climbed in the Lake District in the late 60's and popped in on the way to the Faces, wish I could do it now, even popped in on the way to Scotland for climbing, when I light up my favourite blends it takes me back to those day's. We in England are blest.

I'd assumed it was something to do with McClelland in some odd way.
Because 2018 was the year that McClelland bit the dust, and BAT pulled the plug on "Dunhill" blends, or that K&K made changes to a lot of their blends, or that Doblone d'Oro stopped tasting like the old Va/Per Three Nuns, or that cheap West African DFK got shoved into EVERYTHING, or...

I have no idea.

I would never have imagined such a thing happening to Samuel Gawith had someone not told me.

No that was the date that Ennerdales flavor profile changed!
This sounds like another example of listening to feedback on social media always draws the wrong conclusions.

For my entire time on this forum people have mocked Lakeland blends for the strength of topping, according to consensus of opinion on the forums Ennerdale was being made wrong for the last 200 years and it needed to change.

Problem is the people who didn't like Ennerdale before aren't going to start liking it now, and changing the toppings also reduces its appeal to people who were already fans of the classic Lakeland recipe.

For my entire time on this forum, members who stated they enjoyed the Ennerdale and other "Lakeland" profiles have wondered wondered what changed around 2018.

I haven't seen members that dislike a Lakeland comment about change of toppings or "sauce" (and why would a person who dislikes a blend initially, and therefore not smoke that blend again regularly, dog pile on a change in the blend later ... unless that person had no integrity). But I may be wrong (and often am).

My FNG (freaking new guy) take is the narrative was previously set by a GH staffer making plausible statements. Some members here and elsewhere disagreed. And now we have a different narrative that is also plausible.

I find it interesting, appreciate a fresh perspective, still enjoy the products, and believe there is truths in both sides.

Another problem is that GH's "official" representative publicly denied anything changed.
