Hello. I am from the heart of Corn Country where, for all I know, half of the material for cob pipes come from. I tried pipes a few years ago because I wanted to keep my grandpa in mind...he passed away 25 years ago, but we all still miss him. He used to smoke a cherry blend he made himself from an aromatic drugstore blend and a cavendish drugstore pouch he liked. I always remember him as a slow, deliberate, kind, gentle man, and the smell of pipe tobacco when he'd smoke in the evening resting was inviting. Eventually I lost my interests in pipes because I took up drinking instead, which took me several years to get out of. I've been sober for about eight years now, and went through my cigar phase about six years plus ago, but now found a couple of old pipes that encourage me to take up those again. I never tried the expensive tobaccos like I did with cigars, but at least now I am not going overboard while still getting better than drugstore brands. I don't remember the brand of cherry my grandpa liked, so I am trying some I found at an online site not named here. I have those two old pipes plus three cobs I just bought for the price so I could learn about pipe smoking on a budget, and am planning to spend my money more on new tobaccos than on new pipes. There is much to learn about pipe smoking, and I will take my time doing it. Thanks for listening.

Hey fellow pipers!

New to the site, but I have been reading stuff on here for awhile. I picked up the pipe a little over a year ago, but I've been a smoker for over half my life, mainly cigarettes with an occasional cigar now & then. I ditched the cigs mid-March of this year thanks to the pipe & I'm happier without them! I mainly smoke cobs or hardwood pipes, but I have a few briars that I smoke from time to time. I started out with aromatics, but have been getting into Va/Pers, Virginias & light English blends recently.

Just thought I'd say Hi!

Hello. I want to get into pipe smoking and I don't know anything about it. I came to educate myself before starting and possibly participate more in the future.

Helllo All,

I'm Chris, a Pipe smoker here for about 15 or so years here. I live in upstate, South Carolina and enjoy smaller pipes and right now my favorite tobaccos are frog Morton on the town and semois.

I have been picking up pipes regularly for my collection for about 7 or so years now and have a collection now of 100+ pipes.

I've participated in at least 5 slow smoke contests, one of which was a sanctioned by Doc Garr from UPCA in which I finished 2nd. I finished 2nd in 2 of the other events as well.

I've followed the pipe world online for about 5 years and always lurked pipes magazine forum and finally joined tonight!

Greetings from Argentina!

We are passionate crazy people who like to spend time with family and friends. Friends are very important to us and always find time to spend with them and get together weekly.

If you don't know where Argentina is, I bet you will google it. Just in case let me tell you that the best futbol (soccer) player in the world and the Pope are Argentinos (argentinian)
I started pipesmoking a few months ago when my girlfriend gifted me a briar pipe. The first tobacco I smoked was Blend No.2 from Kohlhase, Kopp und Co. KG and it was a meh experience for me. Even though I use to smoke cigars from now and then, I did not quite enjoy the experience at its fullest, part from the tobacco and part because of my unexperience, until my acquaintance from the tobacco shop hooked me up with Samuel Gawith Cabbie's Mixture.

I inmediately fell in love with pipe smoking.
Thanks for the information here I learnt how not to get tongue bite, and now I there isn't a day that passes without coming home from work at 9pm and have a time to myself were I can sit down and enjoy a good tobacco.
Hopefully my knowledge will increase as I continue to read from knowledgeable fellows such as the people that I found in this forum.

What I also wish to increase is my tobacco and pipe collection, which is scarse and expensive to buy (the cheapest pipe I could found was about U$20 and then prices escalate to U$100. Take into consideration that u$1 is equivalent to $0.666666666666667 in mi country, which sucks)
Anyway, thanks for the information.
Greetings from the south!
Tomás

Hello everyone. Long time follower of the forums, finally decided to get off my proverbial behind (or in this case on it) and created an account. I have been smoking pipes for about six years now. Picked it up after a return from Afghanistan, have not looked back since! Thanks in part to a wife and 5 children my PAD and TAD are greatly checked by the costs of kids these days :laughat:
I look forward to connecting with you all in time, many of you have read a great deal of your posts and feel like I have already gotten to know you somewhat.

Just signed up this morning. Smoked my first pipe in the 1960s, a French brand with a tin of Flying Dutchman. Thought it was the best thing since sliced bread and was puffing like a steam engine until the tongue bite kicked in. Gave that pipe to my father and didn't return to the briar until the mid 1980s. I've been steady smoking pipes ever since.
Current favorite blends are GL Pease Robusto, Dunhill Early Morning Pipe, Gawith & Hoggarth Rum Flake, C&D Haunted Bookshop among others.

Hello all. I signed up a few weeks ago and have been perusing the forms on a very regular bases and figured it was past time to say hello. I'm new to pipe smoking but I've had a desire to try it for over 20 years. I live in a very rural area and the closest b&m is 3 hours away and they are very limited in both stock and knowledge. I've never met nor seen another pipe smoker in the area and an having to go about this relatively on my own. The forum here has been a fabulous wealth of information and I'm very impressed with quality, character and maturity of the members here and look forward to being a part of the community.

Hello everyone. I'm new here, even though I joined a while ago, I just started posting. About to hit the 1 year mark from when I first started smoking a pipe. I enjoy it quite a bit but am no way a veteran. So far I own 3 pipes, a Peterson Killarney 05 Dublin, Stanwell Brushed 03 Billiard and a Missouri Meerschaum Washington Cob (which was my first pipe!). I've learned a lot from these forums this past year and decided to join in. I'm also a part of the Los Angeles Pipe Club. I'm an actor and filmmaker and am looking forward to incorporating pipes into my characters and projects. Nice to meet y'all!

Greetings, fellow pipers! Been away from the hobby for a while, but decided to take it back up again after my son got me back into smoking cigars, and I found I like the pipe better.
I recently picked up a few estate pipes from Goodwill that aren't in the best of shape, and I'm in the process of bringing them back to life now. I'll post details and photos once I have some visible results.
Cheers!

Good day Gents,
Been smoking a pipe for around 25 years and where I am it's very difficult to meet other pipers and even harder to get a good selection of smoke thought I'd look to learn some more about pipes and tobacco.
Looking forward to getting more into the site. Thus far this site seems like a good bunch of blokes just looking to enjoy a common passion, count me in Gents.
Cheers.

Hello! I just started smoking a pipe, had my first smoke on Saturday. I have to admit that it started as a whim. My avatar is my great-great-great-grandma whom I am named after, and she's infamously known in our family as The Lady with the Pipe, and i figured since we had the same name I should have a pipe too! Looking forward to learning a lot. I've already been bitten by the pipe-acquisition bug, lol. So far, though, I just have a Missouri Meerschaum Legend and am smoking Carter Hall.

Greetings everybody. I've finally joined in after reading so many posts for a year now since I started smoking pipes. Happy to join in and take part. Absolutely love the transition I made from just starting to smoke aromatics cool to discovering English blends. I hesitated but just to try nightcap and it transformed my pipe smoking hobby into an art. Now I love a few select Dunhill blends like MM965 , London mixture and a few others. So much to say but for now let's just start by wiping my feet at the door and hanging my coat up.

I'm excited to share my humble opinion how I've had to learn to smoke cool and calm. Sipping rather than riding a steam train. I'm a work in progress as I've already seen that pipe smoking is and art and well as a science.

Exciting stuff
