Bent Mike, you are a better turner than I am.
Photoman, I love the colors in that 4th one.

Ejames, I use a jet 9x20 metal lathe to do all my turning and shaping. The cross slide and tool holder is easily removed from my lathe and I made a small tool rest that opts quickly in its place. But you can actually make something that will mount in the tool holder that will work. Many have done so. I sold my wood lathe as I can do anything I want to do on this lathe.

I was looking at my lathe after the exchange of post with bentmike and think I can rig up something in the tool holder to do some wood carving.Might be a good job for my son-law.He's a much better metal fabricator than I am--and he has access to all the tools needed for it.

With one month to go, I see 14 guys interested, with 7 showing finished tampers. I am not counting projects still in development. This is going to be fun.
There seems to be a trend of making multiple tampers. I also have make a couple more made from Corian, including one from scraps left over from our kitchen countertops.

-Fourth one is drift wood Found along Watts Bar Lake in Tennessee. That color is all natural with a little olive oil and carnuba wax for the finish and a 9 mm shell casing cut down with tube cutters.
That's a real beauty, IMHO.

I actually have mine done but with my Internet (can still only get dial up) hit and miss, and very slow when hitting, I haven't been able to post a picture. I'm out on the road for work and will get a picture posted hopefully this evening.

Ok, I finally got time to post this. I was going to leave it a surprise, but so many others are posting theirs. This one is stained oak, black rose acrylic and has a solid copper foot.

I've seen pipes with magnets in the rim (Medico made some) but never a magnetic tamper ! Wondering where it could be used though, ain't much metal in car interiors anymore. Maybe if you have a steel desk or workbench?

I think we are going slightly crazy. I am patiently waiting the three more weeks until this tamper trade is complete, before we find out the final results. Actally, I turned ten more tampers today out of chestnut, and some other mystery woods laying around the garage.
