I always have a bacci tin laying around my smoking area, so I would have it attached to this. The one thing I hate most is a tamper rolling off a table, etc. and hitting the floor (wrecked more fancy tampers this way :-( so my original design was a silver disc tamper end, the mag was just a little bonus ;-)
I can't wait until 9/17, all these tampers are top-notch!
The two tampers I re-worked with a new colored stain and mag-disc tamp ends

I have made myself a couple of nice tampers, but don't use them for the same reason. I carry a Czech and keep pipe nails laying around.

@ejames~You are right about that and I have learned my lesson the hard-way (more than once perhaps :-(
Since I know that some have some larger pipes out there 1"+ diameter chambers, I have made a new one to change out with briar #5
This one is called "Midas" similar type design to #5, but don't choose this one for smaller 3/4" chambers ;-)

Carving, sanding, staining, lathe, metal forging. It's what ever floats your boat. I'm sure anyone can still join. in.

Frennchy, the trade is still open. As long as you complete your tamper and post a picture by Monday 9/17, you can join in. We have all skill levels. I am going to declare that the trade is complete when I get home from work on that date. There are so many cool tampers that have been made. I have several tampers from previous trades. I enjoy using them, because they were made by someone on the forum. Each on is radically different.

Lightoneup, We have a tamper exchange every six months or so. As I told another new member, I would prefer that you sit this one out. It has nothing to do with the tamper you posted, which looks really cool! The policy for the forum is that you need 50 posts before you can sell / trade items. Send me a private message, if you want further details.
Thanks for joining up on the forum. We hope you learn a lot and become an active member here. You have already made a tamper. I have certainly enjoyed my time here.

OK here are the tampers I have made for this trade. I found out that I only had a few of the larger spent shells, so I will glue on the shell casing after the winner of my tamper makes a selection. From the top left, 5 from chestnut, 3 from curly mystery wood, crotch walnut, more mystery, mystery, willow, mahogany, mystery, then below 4 from assorted corian, Osage Orange, spalted mystery wood, and several curly woods.
Once the winner makes a choice, I will glue on the casing and send it out. Tell me what broad variety of tobacco you like and perhaps I can provide some fun packing material.

Photoman, almost all the tampers I make will be for sale at the next Chicago Pipe Show. That is how I finance PAD and TAD. That, and they are just fun to make and they provide an excellent way to practice my turning skills, and explore all the various woods I have collected over the years.
