Curious what other people think of the Byronic slices, had one bowl and it just tasted like vinegar and smoke. Bought a bunch of bags as well, Hoping it gets better over time.

After smoking more of his stuff besides Sakura, which I liked a lot at first, I gotta say, most of his stuff is just okay. I don't think it's worth the price tag, and I'm pretty sure some of his blends are rebranded Sutliff.

I'm not going to hate, but I'm also good on KB.

None of his blends are rebranded anything. This I know for certain.

I'm smoking my first bowl of Jupiter Slices, a whole leaf (or at least the layers I saw) red virginia plug. From the tingle on my now callused tongue, I suspect it would have bitten my younger tongue. That aside, it's sweet and delicious. I think I'll buy some more when available. And I say this as a non-straight Virginia afficianado.

So, so far, I'm a yea on English Fragrant, Mountains of Madness, King's Ransom, Live Wire, and now Jupiter Slices, somewhat of a nay on Pork Chops & Apple Sauce, and a full nay on Byronic Slices.

Not many KBV fans (of whom there is no shortage here) weighing in with effusive praise. Hm, wonder why? ?
I enjoyed the subtleties of Sakura and richness of Moriarty and both had a tasty Oriental presence that fits with what I like. However, there are plenty of other tobaccos that are more readily available that I prefer and would recommend. Dark Fired Cherry was okay, too, but a bit disappointing for what I was expecting based on its description. Those are the only three KBV blends that I have purchased. I like the concept of what he's doing, but not everything will necessarily be good. It's very much like a craft brewery that hasn't really left home brewing behind.

I did get some Samuel Gawith Bob's Square Cut from his site that I had been seeking and it was pretty good.

I have only tried two, and not much yet of either. The Burley Morning Pipe was fun, but just too clever by half. I’m fine with a more pedestrian burley that doesn’t sizzle as I smoke it with a coffee. Maybe I’m just not an aro guy.

Mycroft I’ll need to try again, but the orientals seemed much tamer than the dark fired and I couldn’t get the nuance I expected. Maybe the trouble with a beginner’s palate. Haven’t really given it enough of a chance though.

I think that is partly because most of the comments are for recent blends, and not the totality of the KBV line up. Also, most of these blends are the off-the-beaten path to one extent or another, and those kinds of products often get a diverse range of opinions. Any time a blender spins a twist on old ideas, it will result in positive and negative responses from the public.

Also, some people just don't want to bother arguing about it.
