    Let’s Talk Aromatics

My favorite Aro flavorings are the various Lakelands, any Nut-based flavoring, Tonquin, and Vanilla. They're slowly creeping into my rotation, but will never rival Va or VaPers for me. When their gone I'll see what prices are like, but I have no current intentions on restocking. I'm fortunate...

G.L. Pease Photos Guaranteed to Make You Drool - New Article

My exact thoughts as I read the article.

    Cringle Flake 2021

Personally, I opened a tin of the 2020 a little after a year of ownership, and did notice a positive difference from "fresh". The perique melded with the Virginias a tad more, and I felt that the complexity of perique tastes such as the earthy chocolaty fruit notes shined a tick better. The...

    New Chris Morgan- Bones Pipe

I've heard Molina, but I don't have a source on that.

    Filter or No Filter

Same. I can taste them even on a cold draw. Plus they mess with the draw in all kinds of ways. More of a pain to clean, can't use a pipe cleaner during the smoke as easy... Yeah not for me.

Pegasus or Old Joe Krantz Blue Label

Good write up! Makes me want to break out the last of my Pegasus to smoke it. My only tiny gripe is the inconsistency from the thicker cut, but that's very easily solved.

Six of the Best & Three of the Rest......Rock Guitarists

My picks, as well. The rest are, well, the rest.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2021?***

Finally had the perfect smoke with Esoterica Stonehaven. When I look back, I think it's the tobacco that has taken the longest to, "Figure out." Accompanied by Twinings Earl Grey. House Finches chirping all around. Love my new curved Falcon International. Very comfortable to clench, light...

    Opinions on Kiribi lighters

OP, this is the most common complaint/issue I've heard. FWIW I haven't had that issue yet. I really enjoy mine. Although I've only had it a bit shy of a year, it has been very seriously abused, without issue. It works much better as a lighter than you would imagine. The double Jets on the...

G&H Cherry Vanilla ?: Who Loves It?

Through the forseeable future I'll be opening Aros with "nut" flavors added (I can't believe I just typed that). Ol' @BROBS popped up on some of the reviews I found of some of them. But I know I have some GH Cherry Vanilla in a mylar somewhere.... Once I open it, if it's not my cuppa, I'll...

Do We Have A Famous Member Among Us?

There's hints of Pegasus and Old Joe Krantz Blue in every bite!

    Carter Hall or Chatham Manor

To me, they are apples and oranges. I know that's not a popular opinion. While their flavorings are in the same ballpark, I find the leaf and smoking experience much different. I've also put 'em both away for a tad- Carter Hall didn't change at all, Chatham Manor showed aging promise. Carter...

Aging MacBaren Virginia No. 1: Tongue Bite?

One aspect of technique that did the trick for me that doesn't seem to be mentioned often: Where is the stem pointed when you draw(sip) from the pipe? Is it pointed at the front of your tongue, the middle? Is it pointed at the roof of your mouth? Into open space inside your mouth? Do you clench...

    Peterson Barley Spigot Release

I'd pull the trigger immediately, but I'll wait for more stock to possibly be added, as none of the blasts in the shape I liked seemed super appealing. I know Peterson is capable of some great blasts.

    How Cold is "Too Cold?"

I'm in the "As long as there's no wind" camp. My personal nightmare is to retire somewhere, and I'm struggling to smoke, because it's always windy. I'd love to have the luxury of having an indoor smoking spot...one day.

The (Un)Official PipesMagazine Secret Santa 2021!

I'm pretty overwhelmed by Santa's generosity, he definitely did his homework. And here I thought I was naughty this year! '14 Wessex Campaign Dark Flake and a tin (on of my favorite projects, the real unicorn) of RO Acadian Gold. But wait, there's more! A hefty amount of McClelland's 2015...

    Molasses Heavy Blend

Solani ABF Esoterica Stonehaven (though, in its treacle form) Granger (less than the above) The Sutliff Ready-Rubbed that I purchased was high in cocoa but light in molasses. You also might try a Danish mixture, something from MacBaren like golden extra or Scottish Mixture, or Flying...

Having a drink with your smoke?

I'm not the biggest drinker anymore for a variety of reasons, but I've always felt a good bit of Porto goes great with just about any pipe blend.
