Decades-Old Tobacco: Magical Elixir, or Zombie Dust?

Most of the old-ish stuff I've had has aged and lasted well after opening. I've never had anything over 20 years though. The blends I like fresh tasted great aged. The blends I didn't like fresh didn't. Who wudda thunk?

    Guide Me on Cobs

Based on your preferences, I can highly suggest either the general or the 5th Avenue diplomat. I own several and they have been great pipes.

    Deer Tongue

I've been really fascinated with the chameleon that is deer tongue and thought about doing something similar. Been smoking Engine #382 recently. Where'd you get it? Have a jar of Gentleman Caller that's been on ice for a while, excited to try that one next.

    Is Tongue Bite Over Hyped?

At my current ability, with the "bite-ist" of blends, and worst of circumstances, it'll take a couple bowls to experience any real tongue bite. I don't smoke those blends often, and certainly not successively, so it's not an issue. My favorite blend that I have cellared, that can bite me, is...

What’s the Deal with HS Studio Pipes?

I have a fancy one that had a terrible terrible taste when smoking. Life is too short and I never gave it a second chance.

Solani Aged Burley Flake vs C&D Pegasus

I've recently smoked all of those mentioned in this thread (Stonehaven, Pegasus, ABF, and Granger), and they are all so different to not be an apples and apples comparison. Pegasus - I've pressed the Pegasus and hydrated just a tad before putting back on ice while I work through other blends...

The (Un)Official PipesMagazine Secret Santa 2021!

I was just thinking about this, what timing! I loved this last year and am definitely in again. Thanks again for organizing, very kind. Edit: Ol' St. Nick (why does your breath smell like liquor?), VA/Or, VA, or VA/Bur please!

    C&D Dark Burley

Yep, I think C&D's dark burley is the best in the biz. Would love a focused small batch centered around that varietal.

What tobacco can replace SG FVF?

Agreed. I have some pretty old BBF that is very, very sweet.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2021?***

I have a couple of these meerschaum-lined sandblasted p-lippers stamped "Grand Prix" and "Grand Bruyere". This one has a forward cant to it almost like a belge. Dipping into a big stash of 1792, which I keep on hand when I need an "assist" to drag me through the work day.

***What Are You Smoking, October 2021?***

I'd guess, based upon what I've seen on ebay, read, and chats I've had with other pipe smokers, that the SF pipe and tobacconist shops commonly utilized Comoy's to order/make their shop stamped pipes from around the late 'teens to at least the early 40's. Who knows, maybe they had several...
