    Captain Pete was just a line of Peterson’s, been around for ages. They were generally pretty limited in shape/scope and tended to be of chunky proportions. Yours is a nice example with the bimetallic ring and lovely rustication. They were mostly on par with Shamrock grade.

    The overarching C and full cursive script are from the later production by Consolidated Cigar in the 1970’s. The sparse (by Mincer standards) rustication is also a hallmark of later production as are fine lines of the rotary toll used to do the rusticating.

    That is bone, it turns jet black after having been smoked for years. That’s exactly what the straight system condensers do, they burn close to the draft hole. It’s just part and parcel of the straight system pipe. Also the straight system stingers are often not threaded but rather glued in.
