Restoring The Two US Spartans From 1943

They’re not terribly valuable, most pipe collectors don’t have a lot of interest in them because they’re not traditional pipes and they smoke terribly. The only people who are really collecting them are people with crossover interest in militaria or the Second World War. They don’t generally...

Restoring The Two US Spartans From 1943

Nice work, Mt Laurel and Rhododendron are more porous than traditional briar, it’ll soak up alcohol based stain as fast as you can apply it. Mostly D&P didn’t stain them for that reason among others. The GI’s that smoked them claimed they burned out pretty quickly but were better than nothing...

My other theory is that these are 120V AC self lighting pipes. L=Line/load N=neutral Someone wire one up to an outlet and smoke it, get back to us if you can.

According to the 1939 Roger’s Imports catalog Deluxe’s were made in “Limited Numbers”. Maybe the N L Is some sort of indicator of that. I have zero evidence of this or any way to prove it but it’s a working theory. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Which Shipping Options from Smoking Pipes?

Go with UPS whenever you can, the USPS is absolutely dreadful now. They’ll take your order on a week and half ride around the country before letting it sit in a distribution center for another week.

Help me with tenon an AB Mer?

If it’s just an alignment issue you shouldn’t need any tape. The reason the tenon has two different sized threads is so that you can adjust clocking position. You can screw the tenon in and out of the stem to adjust clocking position of the stop.

That seems to be more true of the acrylic stemmed system pipes. They are a smaller diameter but do still use an approx 1.98 degree taper for system standard style stems.

    Hairline Crack

If you keep the pipe reamed to a reasonable cake thickness it won’t progress. If you let the cake go unmaintained it’ll be splitsville.

Yep, definitely a 1990’s Patent commemorative reissue, and definitely not a Peterson stem. System standards all use approximately the same taper, so any system standard stem of close size should suffice.
