I bought this pipe and thought it was a 1929. After looking at the dating index, the patent number seems limited in the years and I’m coming up with 1919. Anyone have any insight? I may be reading it incorrectly.

Pipedia's decoder says 1929, with those consecutive patent numbers. Also, "Made In England" is correctly missing for this date.

Is that 3 the only other stamping on the pipe? If so, it’s likely prior to 1921. Which would make it a very early Shell. What’s the button look like?
Sellers photos, but should have it soon. Yes, the 3 is the only marking.

About halfway down the Pipedia dating page (don't know how to be more precise than that) there is a listing for #11970817/16989/179 dated to 1927-'34, with lack of MADE IN ENGLAND stamp indicating for domestic, not export, sale.
