    Books About Pipes

Im looking for recommendations on pipe and pipe tobacco books. Anything from books about how to make pipe, books about pipe makers, books on the history of pipe manufactures, books on blenders, books on how to blend, etc. All things pipes and pipe tobacco. So far Ive got the Peterson Pipe book...

    Peterson Pipe Stem

Should I attempt a repair or leave the stem/tenon as is? The tenon insert for the stem is stuck in the shank. The pipe still smokes normally. My gut feel is leave the pipe as is, but I would prefer to have the tenon insert in the stem. The pipe is a Peterson black meerschaum just FYI.

    SPC Virginia Jazz Signature Series

Does anyone know anything about Seattle Pipe Clubs Virginia Jazz Signature Series blend? The only thing Ive been able to find is the little description on tobaccopipes.com website. Virginia perique crumble cake with 10 year old Virginias and Acadian perique.

    Coloring Bowls?

What is the point of the meerschaum coloring bowls? I assume the coloring bowl itself will color, but are the coloring bowls supposed to help the meerschaum pipe color as well? Does the coloring bowl make a briar pipe smoke like a meerschaum pipe?

    Detached Peterson Band

Any recommendations on adhesives to reattach the band? I assume fixing the band is simple as applying a small amount of glue then reattaching the band, but any pointers on how much glue, set time, etc, would also be appreciated.

    Cellaring Too Long?

Is there a point in time with cellaring (in sealed tins/jars) when the tobaccos start having diminished returns (flavor, texture, etc) from cellaring too long? Most of the posts I read talk about cellared tobacco that has been put away for 2-5 years, and some posts which refer to 10+ years. Id...

Obsidian oil or carnauba wax for stem?

Which is better for storing pipe stem? I would assume that both would be sufficient for preventing oxidation, but is one better than the other? Also the carnauba wax applied with a buffer.

    Pipe Making Hardware

What is this tool and where can I get one? Ive seen 1/4, 1/2, etc motors, but I dont know much about the arbor/wheel, and Im having a hard time finding any information. I wasnt sure where to put this post, but I thought this would be the best category.

    Pipes Safe on Pipe Stand?

Is there any concern about scratching/damaging pipes on a wooden pipe stand? I know briar is a dense hardwood, but I have some concern about scratching/damaging the finish and/or briar on the bare wood of a pipe stand. Im going to attempt to make a pipe stand out of oak, and was wondering if...

    Old or Mold?

Is this mold or just well aged tobacco? I was able to snag an older tin of FVF. How old the tin is Im not sure. Ive only been cellaring for a few years so Ive got nothing to compare to this older tin. The tin was not sealed, so Im not sure how long the tin was open. As usual, any insight will...

    Salt Corrosion?

Has anyone run into salt corrosion on metal pipe parts when doing a deep clean with salt and alcohol? Im wanting to do a salt and alcohol clean on a Kaywoodie but Im concerned about the salt corroding the metal mortise. Obviously I dont plan on leaving the salt in the indefinitely, but I do...

    Underrated Blends?

What are some underrated tobaccos? Tobacco reviews are very subjective as we all know. I find there are a lot of reviews of popular and/or new blends, some are good and some are bad. (A big nod to JimInks for his contributions to tobacco reviews) I would love to get some input on the lesser...

Cellaring: How Much is Too Much?

How much is too much tobacco in regards to cellaring tobacco? Now I realize this is a very subjective question, so Im more or less just looking for some opinions on the matter. Ive accumulated waayyy more tobacco than I had ever planned on cellaring. I have a fear of missing out, so Im...

Sealed Tins or Mason Jars for Aging/Cellaring?

Is it better to age and/or cellar tobacco in their original sealed tins or to put the tobacco into a mason jar for aging and/or cellaring? From what I understand part of the aging process/mellowing of flavors when aging tobacco is to the consumption/lack of oxygen within the container. I would...

McClelland Dilemma - To try or Not?

Short story - Ive never smoked any McClelland blends: should I try the McClelland tins I have or not? So I didnt start exploring different brands, blends, or varietals, and I definitely didnt start cellaring, until after McClelland closed up shop. I didnt know much about any brands or blends so...
