    As i smoke my pipe

I would never ruin a perfectly good pipe session with the news.

Long-Term Cob Torture Test: 6 Months Under the Elements *AliExpress Edition*

I never understood why anyone would buy a Chinese cob to actually smoke when one can buy a real cob for the same price or a couple dollars more. It would be interesting to put a MM Missouri Pride - the pipe they intended to copy - to the same test alongside it. I think I know what the outcome...

    Breath Method

It's certainly not the best idea. I always try to avoid it when smoking a pipe, and for that matter, breathing the secondhand smoke or exposing others to it. It's not hard to mitigate the risk factors without compromising one's enjoyment of pipes and tobacco.

    Breath Method

I concur. It's amazing how, when one slows down their smoking cadence, the true flavors of the tobacco are allowed to come through. A lot of people find Haunted Bookshop to be ashy or cigarette-ish because they smoke it too hot and too quickly. The flavor is wonderful when smoked slowly. Making...

    Thoughts on a Second Pipe

It's up to you. Everyone has different preferences. Maybe a briar since you already have a cob? Churchwardens are great. I love them, as do many others.

    Breath Method

Like various packing methods, the "breath method" is basically just a way of teaching new and intermediate pipe smokers how to smoke a pipe properly. Many newbies (including myself when I started) puff too hard and fast - smoke in, smoke out, smoke in, smoke out - not realizing that there's more...

***What Are You Smoking, April 2024?***

Last smoke for at least a month; having dental work done (floss your teeth regularly, kids!). Haunted Bookshop in an El Morjane Algerian briar liverpool.

How Many Ounces Of Tobacco Fit In An 8oz Mason Jar?

Unopened standard round tins can potentially stay sealed for decades, or they might lose their seal if dropped and/or dented. You can test the seal by attempting to twist the lid off by hand. If it comes off with a firm twist, it wasn't sealed. The vacuum seal has to be broken on a sealed tin by...

    Lightheaded and Not Sure Why

You can look up blends on Tobacco Reviews, which has a "Strength" metric by which users can rate the perceived nicotine strength of a blend. It's subjective, but it can still be a useful reference.

How Many Ounces Of Tobacco Fit In An 8oz Mason Jar?

It varies depending on the cut and weight density of the tobacco. Generally speaking, I find that 1oz of ribbon tobacco needs 4 fl oz of volume. It may take some light compression to fit it all, depending on the blend, or you may have some space left over. Very moist blends will take up less...

    Glycerine and Vulcanite?

Best bet is to use oil that does not go rancid. I use jojoba oil to clean and preserve vulcanite. It's technically a very thin liquid wax, not an oil.

Absolute Mildest Nicotine With Latakia and/or Orientals

What Proteus said, or a smaller bowled pipe with filters as others have suggested. Also smoking slowly and not on an empty stomach. Sugary beverages are said to help with nic overload too. It's also fine to smoke a partial bowl and come back to it later. I frequently smoke the first half of a...

    Eight State Burley Question

Straight burley can make my tongue a little chalky sometimes. The more of it I smoke, the less I notice it, and I primarily smoke burley. It never bothered me enough to make me switch to different tobacco types. Some people say it's the alkalinity of the leaf, but I'm not sure about that.

I Hated Half & Half—Because of the Burley?

Half and Half is not a good representation of burley. It's all about that gross, overly sweet Play Dough topping. Same with Velvet and Paladin.

Is it OK to Never Remove the Stem ?

I would definitely request an exchange. A stem should never be that tight. If a stem is just a little bit too tight, I'll melt a bit of beeswax and apply it to the tenon of the stem, wiping the majority off before reinserting the stem. That's usually all it needs to be able to glide smoothly...

Absolute Mildest Nicotine With Latakia and/or Orientals

Ignore the self-proclaimed gatekeepers, and do what you find suits you best, even if others think it's "wrong" or whatever. If you like low nic blends, there's nothing wrong with that. Tobacco Reviews has a "strength" metric that allows users to rate the nicotine strength of a blend, and that...

    Any Pipe-Related OCD Tendency?

I don't buy used "estate" pipes. People polishing pipes with spit and nose grease, et cetera. What's next? Earwax as a vulcanite polish? No thanks. Besides, I don't mind breaking in new pipes at all.

    Rouxgaroux: A Rexminderx

I went to go get some Simply Red & Orange, both of which I've been itching to try, and just happened to catch this drop. Looking forward to trying this one as well. I have to say that I'm glad I was wrong about perique. I used to think I didn't like it, and now I can't get enough of it.

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Good afternoon and happy Easter, everyone. I just enjoyed a bowl of SP Vanilla Cavendish in this new Country Gentleman out on the deck, a cup of black coffee on the side. Beautiful day!

    Filters or Not? Your Thoughts

Your questions are welcome here. That having been said, it's a good idea to use the search function to look for threads where the question you have may have already been answered. Despite all of the grumpy old man grumbling you will encounter here, most of it is good-natured, so I wouldn't take...
