    Italian Pipes: Just my Style?

Hey, you found something that you like and works well for you. For me, generally it's French pipes, but there are undoubtedly many high quality Italian briars, and I own several Italians as well. Some people claim that they notice different effects on flavor between Italian briar, Greek...

    Flavors Are Off

I like the subtle taste of whiskey (or rum, brandy, or whatever I used) after swabbing out a pipe with it. It does a good job of dissolving gunk and sweetening the pipe.

    Filters or Not? Your Thoughts

Same. A moderate to open draw is a requirement for me, and all filters I've tried restrict air flow too much. Every time I try one, it feels like trying to drink a thick milkshake through a straw. Stop and remove the filter, and the issues are resolved.

    Orlik Vintage, Anyone?

If I were in court and the judge was not smoking Orlik, I would be VERY concerned.

B&M Cob Score - What's Your Latest Score?

I never seem to have much luck either. Keep checking B&Ms and chances are you'll find that deal eventually.

    Orlik Vintage, Anyone?

Definitely looking forward to seeing this hit the US market. I liked all of the Orlik blends I've tried and wish that DSK, Racing Green, and Mellow Mixture would make a comeback.

B&M Cob Score - What's Your Latest Score?

I went in one of those "Tobacco Shack" type stores recently - the kind that sell everything from cigarettes and dip to some pretty decent cigars and a few pipes and pipe blends. They had a fair selection of pipes and tobacco, mostly run of the mill stuff like Rossi/Savinelli pipes and some Mac...

    Danish Sir Walter Raleigh

Damn, I bought a can of the Danish stuff but haven't cracked it yet. I hope I don't have to trash it.

    Danish Sir Walter Raleigh

The last pouch I got from P&C was a little dry and some of the flavor had evaporated, but it still tastes good. It's been years since I smoked it, but it tastes more or less the way I remember it.

    Briar Stems Anyone?

Nice one. That is a beautiful pipe. Genod pipes and French pipes in general are very underappreciated.

Does Sweetened Black Cavendish Make Anyone Else Feel Crappy?

No. This is just a guess, but it sounds like there might be an ingredient in that blend, probably in the topping, that doesn't agree with you. Perhaps an allergy.

The Decline of Prince Albert and Carter Hall

Though unfortunately STG switched these blends to 7oz cans to hide the increased the price per volume, and the smaller cans aren't conducive to the "codger scoop" technique.

The Decline of Prince Albert and Carter Hall

Huh, I thought that the label changed at the same time that production moved and the pouches were discontinued. On my most recent tub of CH, I noticed that the label changed again, and they removed the nicotine warning (⚠️RED ALERT!⚠️).

The Decline of Prince Albert and Carter Hall

I noticed some slight changes in the Dominican Carter Hall, but it's not different enough for me to drop the brand altogether. The cut is a bit less even, there are more stems/veins, and the toppings are a bit heavier and sweeter. It's still a good blend, though I wish they'd move production...

Smoking to the Bottom of the Bowl.

Packing lighter is generally good advice considering that most beginners tend to cram the tobacco in way too tight. However, I followed this advice as a beginner and struggled with excessive relights, and as it turns out I was packing TOO loosely. Most of the blends I smoke are fairly dry to...

Smoking to the Bottom of the Bowl.

Yeah, there is a bit of a learning curve with pipes, but that's totally fine. Many smokers struggle a bit at the beginning with messing up packs and having lots of relights. Stick with it, try different approaches, and it'll click eventually. A little bit of dottle at the bottom is normal...

    Nicotine or Relaxation?

It seems strange to me to make the assumption, as several comments on this thread have, that the primary reason one would choose to smoke a pipe is to sate a nicotine craving. That's roughly equivalent to suggesting that the only reason to drink a beer is for the buzz, and it jumps to the...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2024?***

Nice pipe. I have the same one in black.

    Silly Blend Question

Some blends may list identical components (ex: burley, virginia, orientals) but different varieties of each and in different proportions, with different production methods and different top dressings. There's dark burley, white burley, bright VA, red VA, orange VA, dark VA, LOTS of different...

    Nicotine or Relaxation?

So, BCA? Well, and decaf coffee also just tastes like crap, like non-alcoholic beer.
