    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

Cigars taste similarly bland. I haven't noticed any differences with any type of food, just tobacco and alcohol.

    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

I've considered that it might be allergies, but it's a year-round problem. I don't typically drink at the same time as smoking. I feel like it dries my mouth out too much, especially liquor. I do keep water or coffee on hand, though.

    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

Yes, I've been told that I'm in near-perfect health by my doctors. It remains a mystery. I'm sorry to hear about the problems you've had, but I'm glad things have improved.

    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

I'm an intermittent smoker, taking frequent breaks for weeks or months at a time and coming back to it when I have the time and inclination. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to help.

    Losing My Taste For Tobacco

I haven't been very active on here for a while because my enjoyment of tobacco has diminished considerably, but I'm curious to hear if anyone else here has had an experience similar to mine. I've been having taste issues going back about five years now, starting before the pandemic, so I know it...

    Smokers Pride. original

The topping is weird - very chemical artificial fruit flavoring. I found it off putting. I would just go for the Carter Hall.

    Less is More

Agree. Too many options can lead to choice paralysis. I'd rather have a handful of pipes that are all favorites than a large collection with many that I hardly touch.

    Cob Hazing.

The way I see it, there isn't much reason to not try one. They are super cheap, so if you don't like it, you didn't waste much money. Besides, these "issues" are way overblown, just like the complaints about breaking in new briars.

Your Disappointing Pipe: Ugly, Runs Hot, etc.

On ugly pipes: I like my ugly pipes because I'm not concerned with dinging, scratching, or charring them.

    Tobacco Storage Cross Contamination

No problem, and you should be fine if they just contained cakes. You don't want to reuse a lid that has been used with something like garlicky pasta sauce or pickles because it can and will make your tobacco taste like the former contents. Ask me how I know... Anyway, mason jars are fairly...

    Factory Pipes

Generally speaking, you're getting more precise craftsmanship, better materials, better drilling, and a nicer finish when you pay more. There are some cheap factory pipes (Lorenzo, Rossi, Ropp, etc) that will absolutely give you a great smoke, so I wouldn't assume that cheap means that it won't...

    Tobacco Storage Cross Contamination

Mylar is great. I would add that the bags should be heat sealed, not just zipped up if they're the zipper type.

    Tobacco Storage Cross Contamination

What type of container? You can clean glass jars out with dish soap if you want. My preference would be one without fragrances. Other options are vinegar or alcohol; just rinse with water after. Glass mason jars are easy to deodorize with a good cleaning. It's the lids that hold smells for all...

What Pipe Brand Don’t You Own But Want To?

I've had my eye on a few pipes from Chacom and Rattray's. Still haven't pulled the trigger. I have plenty of pipes as is.

    Captain Black Cherry

I like CB regular for a basic vanilla aro. Royal and Gold are decent as well. Didn't care for the Cherry when I tried it. Very artificial flavor and about as flammable as asbestos.

Why Did I Start Smoking a Pipe?

I smoked cigars occasionally before trying pipes and never really found the flavor of most cigars satisfactory. I heard pipe tobacco described as "mellow and sweet" and that appealed to me, so I got a cob and some Captain Black, and loved it. Now I smoke mostly non-aromatics - go figure. Why do...

    Learned a Valuable Lesson Today

"Laughs in ***" is a meme format. In other words, not going to have this problem with a cob.

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

I would generally agree, but if one doesn't personally know any other pipe smokers, it may not make sense to try to give away the remainder of a bulk oz sample or tin and have to deal with mailing it, especially when the shipping cost will likely exceed the value of the tobacco. If it were...

    Your Own "Worst" Tobacco

C&D Sweet English. Tasted like soft caramel candies drizzled with liquid smoke and a bit of vomit. Only blend that has ever gone straight into my trash can after a few puffs.
