New Member Slash Pipe Smoker Looking Forward to New Hobby

Welcome to the forum, Chris. You're no longer alone. You couldn't find a better or friendlier place for advice and support on your new hobby. You already got some advice on aromatic blends from those who smoke them. I too suggest trying Prince Albert and Carter Hall for starters and be open to...

    The Cornsnob pipe

Great way to personalize a pipe, but I wonder how the clay coating will affect the smoking qualities of the cob. My thinking is that they will smoke hotter than a regular cob. At any rate, it's something you can have fun with without spending a lot of money. I can see a red, white and blue...

    Iwan Ries Blends

What I'm seeing so far, unless I'm misinterpreting, is a lukewarm response to their blends, nothing like the high praise that, for example, so many of Peretti's blends get.

    Birth Year Dunhill

Bentmike, your are a lucky man in finding such a special lady and getting a birth year Dunhill in that size and rare shape as a gift from her. Take good care of both of them. I would like a birth year Dunhill but unfortunately, very few were made in 1942! Happy smoking!

    Iwan Ries Blends

I have been on the forum since last May and don't recall much, if any, mention of their blends. I was sent a sample of one of their Three Star Blends, which I didn't like at all, to say the least. Who has smoked their blends and what did you think of them? Any recommendations?

    Dunhill ! ! !

It sounds to me like you bought a fake Dunhill. There were fake Comoy's Blue Ribands floating around a few years ago. I have heard complaints about some slipping in the quality of Dunhills, but never in over 50 years of pipe smoking heard of one described as looking like a drugstore pipe. Where...

Best Tobacco to Break in a New Pipe?

Another vote for a Virginia blend, not something heavily cased like the OTC blends, Virginias are reputed to build the strongest cake and they won't ghost the pipe. I concentrate on building a good, even cake and let it develop slowly over however much time it takes.

    Is This Meerschaum?

To expand and clarify what I just said; as I understand it, they used to get their block meerschaum from Africa and used an oil curing process. Also, you can date your pipe by the hallmark on the silver mount.

    Is This Meerschaum?

It looks like one of their African meerschaum pipes to me.
