Strambach Meerschaum Pipes are carved from Masse or Formed Block. I have no experience with their Pipes other than the Gourd Calabash I own - which is a great Pipe. Artisans outside of Turkey had to get creative with the use of materials after the Turkish government passed laws back in 1961...- fred

Where to order meer mortise/tennon replacement

Any Calabash Experts Out There?
I'm with you on this one cortezattic... I've never seen a Block Meerschaum bowl in a Pioneer Gourd Calabash. The one I purchased back in the day cost $25 and came in a plastic bag with a pasteboard top, complete with a hole in to to hang for display on a pegboard hook.- fred

Cortezattic is correct. Pioneer Gourd Calabash Pipes featured pressed Meerschaum bowls. Likely the premier Gourd Calabash Pipe that is in current manufacture and doesn't have a Block Meerschaum bowl would be Strambach. The Strambach bowl is Meerschaum Masse, which is formed Meerschaum. I...- fred

Dunhill London Mixture
To me, this blend did not benefit from the changes Orlik made to it. I enjoy the Murray's issue immensely, but cannot smoke this current incarnation. Meerschaum Pipe Carving: Another Art Fading into History
I've got a copy of Meerschaum Museum, Governor of Eskisehir Bahaeddin Guney, 1989. Sadly, the Meerschaum Museum no longer exists. The Carving schools are gone and a good number of the mining villages have become ghost towns. A number of Carvers that were featured in this book still survive... -
Meer Pipe Cases
What little I know is that the traditional Pipe cases for Meerschaums are as much an art form as the Pipes. I don't know of anyone outside of Turkey who makes them. They aren't that expensive, but the shipping is enough to make you think about it....- fred

The more conservative approach, which preserves as much of the patina as possible, is to clean the exterior with Everclear and a clean white cotton cloth.
