    PETERSON ENGLISH ERA MEERSCHAUM BULLDOG

Yes, it would seem that you are on the right course to becoming a Devotee. :-) These old African Block Meerschaums are getting harder to find since the Laxey mines closed down back in '06. They really are good Pipes.

    PETERSON ENGLISH ERA MEERSCHAUM BULLDOG

Thanks guys. I really just got lucky with this one. It really is a 'rare' find, which has to be the most abused term of all time on d-bay and in excellent condition for it's age. It didn't attract much attention and the Seller's minimum bid was reasonable, especially considering the...

New (to me) Andreas Bauer Meerschaum Pipe

Bubba wrote: Is there a proper way to remove the cake and rim charring/cake? I used a saliva coated q-tip on one section and after using some force for awhile, it actually smoothed out some of the carving! So what should I use if that isn't the proper way to remove the charring? Thank you so...

New (to me) Andreas Bauer Meerschaum Pipe

Yes, the Andreas Bauer trademark has represented quality for a couple of hundred years. I discuss some of the aspect of acquiring them in this article... http://pipesmagazine.com/blog/put-that-in-your-pipe/the-thrill-of-the-hunt-a-guide-to-estate-meerschaums/ This is one of the early Koncak...

New (to me) Andreas Bauer Meerschaum Pipe

Bubba, Sedat Koncak never used amber or at least I've not seen any Meerschaums come out of the Koncak dynasty that used amber. One of the best descriptions of amber I found in a 1906 Scientific American article, Meerschaum and It's Manufacture into Pipes.... Amber occurs in many parts of Europe...

Help with meerschaum, estates, Dunhill stamps etc

You're welcome. Here's an interesting document from the past.... Recently, I read an article on the Seattle Pipe Club website by Gary B. Schrier, author of 'The History of the Calabash Pipe'. In this article, there was a piece of information I found rather interesting... I think definitively...

    Unsmoked Estate Golden Horn Seashell....

Thanks everyone. The '70's were a time of change in the Meerschaum community, which gave rise to higher quality and artistic merit for Turkish Carvers. Before this, the themes involved a lot of grape leaves & vines, with little variation in shape. A number of Freeform shapes emerged and just...

    Unsmoked Estate Golden Horn Seashell....

This is likely an unsigned Bekler. Bekler was doing a lot of experimentation during this period with Golden Horn before Cano Ozgener recruited him for CAO. Another guy tried to snipe it, but fell short of the mark in the last few seconds, which is great since I got it cheaper than I thought it...

    Meerschaum

Thanks Lawrence. It's my pleasure to share information on these Pipes and their culture. Yes, the Carvers make it look easy.... It's even more amazing when you consider that there is no school for this art, and the sharing of information within the Carver community is nonexistent. This...
