Just got my Altinok meer today!

Ben Rapaport is a member of the All Things Meerschaum group on Smoker's Forum, that I was asked to start nearly 3 years ago. Currently, it is comprised of 325 members and is the only group, that I'm aware of that has Meerschaums and it's culture as the focus. Feel free to join, which some...

    Best Tasting Tobacco?

I've read both wild raves and firm regrets for any blend that's ever been on the market. I like PA and ERR (if you can find it), both of which are best experienced in a Cob.

    Can't keep Squadron Leader lit

Set the tin aside for awhile and allow it to stabilize. I can't speak to the Briar experience with this blend, but it burns to a gray ash in a Meerschaum....

Just got my Altinok meer today!

Izzet Kirkaya is an experienced Master Carver, who has worked with others in the Meerschaum community for years. Sinan has access to a number of Carvers and will stand by the Pipes he sells. The 2 Snail Blowfish is a Hiroyuki Tokutomi shape that I became enamored of awhile back. I'm very...

Just got my Altinok meer today!

Yes, Sinan provides some quality Meerschaums and that is a good looking Pipe! Good for you! On the certificate of authenticity, it will list the Carver, which is a nice touch. I've acquired Pipes from Sinan for years, many of which were special orders, carved to the specifications I...

Meerschaums - Post your Pipe - I can't get rid of the Darn Things!!!

Thanks Cyndi. These are both large Pipes that are good for up to a 2 hour smoke..., which they perform well with.

Solani 656: Aged burley flake...oh the burley goodness!

Absolutely one of the finest Burley Flakes available... Although different in character than the venerated Edgeworth Sliced, it is certainly of the same caliber of quality.

one of my pipes has a bad taste left in it that it affects the flavor of tobacco

I'd second Lawrence's idea of a retort, using Everclear...

    McClellands Three Oaks Syrian

I agree, both 3 Oaks Syrian and Blue Mountain are among the best McClelland has produced, in addition to Anniversary ('02, '05 & '10). As extraordinary as these blends are, they really light up once the tin is allowed to sit for 2 weeks after opening.

Brief History of Sterling/1776 Tobacco Companys

Thanks. The legacy of Sterling and Jack needs to be kept for the future.

Pipes you love but don't smoke great

This question raises another issue, at least to me... Over time, Pipes that I was convinced didn't smoke well got a lot of rack time. As my taste profile changed I would use them to try out new-to-me blends, rather than chance ghosting a Pipe I liked with a blend that didn't work out for me...

What do you uses these for?

Some will use them in Pipes where the base of the chamber is wearing thin from use... Another method for this same problem involves the use of 'load stones', which are small chunks of clay, to place in the bottom of the chamber before loading the Pipe. They look a lot like cat litter & can...

    Rip-Off Report: SmokerPipe.com Scam Site

Thanks for the work that has gone into both this alert and the up-to-the-minute updates on this scam... This sort of thing seems to be more frequent lately..., and we need to be aware of the various devices these ripoffs employ.

restoring old meer destined to be a smoker

Thanks again... Including the article that I just linked to in the last post, there are 2 more that I wrote for Kevin. If he asks for more articles, I can certainly oblige. There is just a lot of things to learn about these Pipes and their culture, which is something that I enjoy. If it's...

restoring old meer destined to be a smoker

Thanks guys, but I'm still learning about these Pipes myself... The Beeswax I prefer to use is white, although different grades of unrefined Beeswax are in use by Carvers. I've read accounts of using various oils and potions mixed in with the wax, some dating from over 100 years ago, while...

restoring old meer destined to be a smoker

There were a lot of these Turkish Meerschaums with the Kaywoodie style connectors sold to the Armed Forces during the '40's & '50's that were in country during this period. There are some that are still around today and are good Pipes for repair that should smoke well. Steve Laug has reported...

    Another Bulldog for the Collection....

Thanks guys. This Pipe is Baki's version of the Sherlock Holmes Meerschaum Pipe The Squire, which is also in my modest collection. The Smooth Quarter Bent Squat Bulldog shape has always drawn me like moth to a flame. Not everyone likes the P-Lip, but I enjoy the performance of some blends...
