Can't keep Squadron Leader lit
Set the tin aside for awhile and allow it to stabilize. I can't speak to the Briar experience with this blend, but it burns to a gray ash in a Meerschaum....- fred

McClellands Three Oaks Syrian
I agree, both 3 Oaks Syrian and Blue Mountain are among the best McClelland has produced, in addition to Anniversary ('02, '05 & '10). As extraordinary as these blends are, they really light up once the tin is allowed to sit for 2 weeks after opening.- fred

Pipes you love but don't smoke great
This question raises another issue, at least to me... Over time, Pipes that I was convinced didn't smoke well got a lot of rack time. As my taste profile changed I would use them to try out new-to-me blends, rather than chance ghosting a Pipe I liked with a blend that didn't work out for me...- fred

What do you uses these for?
Some will use them in Pipes where the base of the chamber is wearing thin from use... Another method for this same problem involves the use of 'load stones', which are small chunks of clay, to place in the bottom of the chamber before loading the Pipe. They look a lot like cat litter & can...- fred

There were a lot of these Turkish Meerschaums with the Kaywoodie style connectors sold to the Armed Forces during the '40's & '50's that were in country during this period. There are some that are still around today and are good Pipes for repair that should smoke well. Steve Laug has reported... -
