My Meer is here !
That's a good looking IMP that should provide years of smoking pleasure. This brand is a good value purchase in the Meerschaum world that combines an often Danish style flair with a hand cut bit that includes a Briar like tenon, and high grade Turkish Block. They color well and smoke well... -

That is unusual... Though I wouldn't recommend an overnight soak of a Meerschaum in anything, this makes me wonder if the Meerschaum was Block or pressed Block. When cleaning up an estate Meerschaum, the cake can be removed using a sharp, blunt tipped knife or a Savinelli Fits-All-Reamer... -

The shank appears to have striped out threads that once served to anchor a bit-to-shank connector, which likely was a bone screw, judging from the apparent age of this Block. Old Meerschaum Block is fragile and repairs are best left to a professional. This will involve a new connector, a new... -

Thanks. Last night I used the oil on a 32 year old Vulcanite bit. After waiting 30 minutes, I hand buffed it out. It looked OK, but this morning it really turned out to have worked well. The overnight change in results is likely related to the age of this bit, which is part of an estate...- fred

Avoiding Rim Charring?
For rim burn, the best tactic is prevention. Don't fully load the chamber & use a flame that either must be drawn down into the chamber or can be directed into it. In dealing with Meerschaums that have been burnt, Beeswax will help to dissipate the discoloration, but to remove it, you will...- fred
