That's a savvy move by P&T. Yes Kevin, I spent the day at the local B&M that I frequent, loafing and burning fine blends in Meerschaums, with a Cigar thrown in for good measure. It was a good time of sparkling conversation & company, while not accomplishing anything in particular.- fred

Lampe Berger oil in a regular oil lamp?
It would be better to get an effusion lamp to burn the Lampe Berger oil in, if you want the benefit of it's use. That stuff is too pricey to just burn in a regular lamp.- fred

I agree with you Bob. I also take a different tact on the concept of evolution. I use the term in the sense that continued experience and change bring the Pipe smoker to a greater level of appreciation for what he/she smokes. It doesn't mean that those who prefer a particular category of...- fred

Smoking and Computers
After a year with an ionizer, I was ready to pay someone to clean it every week or so. I've been using a fragrance lamp, which really works at binding with airborne odors and eliminating them, for about 3 years now. I'm quite happy with it. A La T Da or Lampe Berger is a good investment...- fred

There is a lot to this evolution concept. As we evolve, so do our tastes, our Pipes and the blends we cellar. For me, variety has been the source of pleasure as each blend I smoke provides counterpoint for the next blend. Too much of the same thing is not my preference. As I grow older...- fred

I admit my bias..., I'm not much of an Aromatic smoker. I know that the best selling Pipe tobacco's in the world are Aromatics and that 3 out of 4 Pipe smokers burn them. I agree with Gary Schrier (Confessions of a Pipeman), in his assertion that new Pipe smokers should begin by smoking...- fred

Look at this.
Yes, some consider the Kaywoodie stinger to be a necessary part of the Pipe... Both my Father and I cut them off, as we felt that all they did was keep the smoke from cooling. This issue has been debated for longer than I've been alive and will likely be going on after I've turned to dust. -

Whats a Good Viginia Flake/Perique
Solani 633 is the quintessential Virginia/Perique Flake. It's not an Aromatic but has a light, sweet topping..., likely a sugar water used in the manufacture. There are plenty of good Virginia/Perique blends, but this stuff will ruin you over all of them...- fred
