It's likely good Block since it survived that rapid change of temperature without cracking. Admittedly, this is the first time I've heard of this boiling water method to clean up a Meerschaum. I have read where one e-bay Seller will boil estate Meerschaums in water with olive oil to clean them... -

Help with bone stem meerschaum please
From what you've posted, it is difficult to say what the problem comes from. If the bit is indeed bone, then likely the connector is a bone screw. It is not unusual for bone to bond to Meerschaum. As for what the obstruction is, that's anyone's guess. The crack in the Block doesn't sound...- fred
