Nording rusticated freehand colouring
Great lookin' pipe plank! I have several 'unfinished' briers, and they seem to take on color that is as pleasing to me as watching a meerschaum color over time. I believe it's from the tobacco, but some could be from oils in our hands... -

Don't Fear the Meer
Most of the comments above are true about Turkish Meerschaum. I smoke and handle mine just as you would a cob or brier, except I insure my hands are dry and clean. Dirty, oily hands will stain a pipe. Blowing smoke on the outside of the bowl will do nothing to speed-up the coloring process at...- topd

Tobacco Too Dry? Wait A Minute.
Good advice mso489. I like my flake tobacco's on the extremely dry side.... I usually open a tin and let it dry overnight, then lay the top on lightly and let her go a couple more days.- topd

I've had good and bad experiences buying tobacco that usually comes by the tin in bulk. Mostly good, but I suspect the two times I was disappointed came from a jar marked as a well known that was maybe close, but no cigar (pun intended). Both times was at a small B&M.
