I like the classic style pipes and notice several pieces that are definitely of interest. Welcome aboard, Mr. Brog. It's good to meet you.

Some Volcanoes I Would Jump Into

I was never a fan of the volcano, but the examples shown by you and the other members could just change my mind. Beautiful pipes all.

    Pipe Smoking in Movies

I suspect that, as pipe smokers continue to grow in number, we'll start noticing more pipe sightings in TV and movies.

    Right pipe. Wrong stem ?

It looks fine to me. The widening at the top of the shank is reflected in the stem. Any minor fit problems can usually be easily corrected. I've come across several good threads on this site that address this.

    Pipe shapes and tobacco

I agree, Marc. I have a narrow-bowl Ropp cherrywood that will eat up a good pack in 20 minutes. My Charatan, with a nice big pot, seems to last for hours. Both have their uses. Sometimes, I just feel like a quick pipe break.

    1st Pound In My Cellar

Keep it growing paw. One of my favorite things about the pipe is that we never seem to run out of firsts.

    I'm Purple

Congratulations, Charles. It's funny how these promotions give us such a lift. I feel a certain sense of pride with each one. Trouble is, when I try to tell anyone outside this community about it, they look at me like dogs watching a card trick.

    First Peterson

I have a Peterson Bulldog with a rusticated finish. One of my favorites, and in a very versatile size. Enjoy it.

    Small Pipes

I have several small pipes in my collection. I find them very useful for those times when my smoking break time is limited to 30 minutes or so after lunch.

What do you think about this Thomsen Bent Freehand?

I especially like his use of grain. The fact that it's essentially a classic shape, but with an interesting slant to the bowl, makes this piece especially beautiful. A great little pipe!

Storing A Pipe on A Rack

I hold with rigmedic. All my pipes are stored bowl downward. If I were to store stem down, I'd feel the need to swab out the stem (with a bit of alcohol). Of course, then I'd have to let it dry out...bowl down.

    Popeye "The Sailor Man"

When one considers that he could use his pipe as a boat propeller, marijuana is not entirely out of the question.

    FORUM HELP???

The others have already done an admirable job of answering your question. This is a general comment from one who has spent over a year here. Ask what you will, Joe. You'll not be disrespected on this forum.

    Nice Pipe terrible price

Thank you for your information, Thilo. The photographs you posted show a pipe equal, in every way, to the one listed on e-bay. These truly apear to be beautiful pieces but I simply could not set aside $250-300 US for a pipe before holding it in my hands and experiencing such variables as weight...

How far do you have to drive for tobacco?

Two cigar-based to tobacco shops are within 5 miles of my home. Both sell limited quality pipes (including Peterson) and local tobacco blends. About 15 miles south is Bennington's. This is pipe nirvanah with several hundred wonderful pipes from all over the world, home blends, tins, accessories...

    85 years do I dare

The length of this thread is clear evidence of the deep respect for history that guides and motivates the piper community.

How fast do you try new smokes?

I'm thinking 6 tobaccos in six pipes over the next 6 days. That's about as much will power I could muster in response to the excited curiosity that would arrive with my shipment.

    Local purchase vs online cost

I am fortunate in having two fine tobacconist shops near my home and have always given them my business. I really enjoy the advice, convenience and the fellowship involved.

I may be away for 15 to 20 years....

I spent 12 years as a prison chaplain and, while the experience of incarceration surely has its complications, most facilities still allow smoking. I've known several inmates who actually enjoyed their pipes while on free time in the prison yard. That said, do what you must, my friend.
