Need Advice on Selling My Collection

A few years ago I sold off most of my collection, about sixty pieces. All high-grade and unsmoked pipes, ranging from the classic Dunhills and Upshalls to Danish and Italian. I couldn't be bothered with the hassle that's called ebay, so I shipped the lot to Mike Glukler at Briarblues. I was very...

What Book Are you Reading? - 2019

"Erebus" by Michael Palin. Highly recommendend if you're into maritime history. Well researched and very entertaining writing. Before that, "The End" by Ian Kershaw. He deals with the question why the Germans kept on fighting after June of 1944, when to almost all concerned it was pretty obvious...

    Anybody Have Dunhill TSAD?

Ha! I can get that T-shirt for only 295 Euros. Oh, wait...

British American Tobacco to Discontinue Dunhill Cigars and Pipe Tobacco

The Dunhill family business owns the brand name, British American Tobacco is licensed by them to manufacture their pipe tobacco blends and for the last decade or so they've been doing that at their Orlik factory in Denmark.

    Best Live Band(s)

The one that still sticks out for me is Lou Reed's performance on the 'Berlin' tour in Amsterdam, 2007.

    New Series featuring Pipe Smoking!

I've watched Rowan Atkinson try his hand at becoming Maigret. He's quite convincing, both as a French police inspector and as a pipesmoker, but Bruno Cremer still rules.

    What's Your Lineage?

My father's mother was born in Vienna. She emigrated shortly after The Great War. The rest of the family are all Frisian.

    Pipe Tie

I can add to the proof for your adage, as I own a pair. Some signs of wear, otherwise clean & decent condition. Any takers ?

Ashton - Jimmy Craig vs. Bill Taylor

Like tennsmoker I enjoyed a few hours with Bill Taylor and both Ashtons I have remind me of him every time I light them. On the other hand, I would be keen to take a closer look at Craig's work because those Ashtons smoke so easily and tasty.

    What Are You Reading?

"U.S.S. Cyclops", by Marvin Barrash. The largest vessel in the fleet, lost in 1918 somewhere off the eastern seaboard with all 306 souls on a voyage surrounded with mystery and intrigue.

    Frankenblend Roll Call

About two weeks ago I decided to reanimate some leftover Dunhill blends that had been drying out for the last decade or so. After a fastidious start I soon decided to throw them all together in a big jar and see what would come out. About half of it is Standard Medium, the rest is made up of...

    Show Us Your Sitters!

My only sitter, which is so small it cannot live up to its name unless stuffed to the brim with fresh and rather moist tobacco. Aside from that technical imperfection, it really is a dream to smoke:

    Pipe Books

Absolutely true, georged. Maya & Liebaert are very well-informed and they cover almost every aspect of pipesmoking in a more than decently edited and illustrated book.

    Interesting Dunhill snippet.

Ken's observation is in agreement with what Dunhill staff stated to me quite a few years ago: the X indicates a replaced pipe.

What Music Are You Listening to - April 2016?

Bob Marley - Catch a Fire. The weather is appropriately nice here, yesterday I saw Kevin MacDonald's very good film on Marley and the cellar proved to hold a last bottle of rum. Yah Rule!

    Porsche Pipes, Opinions?

You should remember there are different varieties of the Porsche pipe: the first version, produced by Oldenkott in two shapes: a straight and a half-bent. Both shapes were available in different colour combinations. When Oldenkott and Porsche Design fell out production ceased for a good few...

Stolen Charatan at NY Pipe Show 3/12/2016

My commiserations for Mr. Congos. Thievery is vile. He may want to change the date on the above photograph, though.

    My Stems Don't Fit.

A few years ago I left some pipes in the boot of my car during winter and they all suffered from loose tenons in spring. A move to more favourable conditions helped a lot, but smoking them solved the problem almost immediately. This being a non-invasive procedure I'd try it for a few bowls...
