The company 7thearl refers to has been making clays for centuries. BTW, it's not glazing on the end but rather a kind of artificial beeswax. It won't stand up to fire, but you only need to burnish the kettle if you should want to restore it to its original white, not the entire pipe. The price... -

Pipe Lighters
As I detest matches I have several pipe lighters, from disposable jet flames to the classic Corona. This one works best for me: Piezo spark so no need to carry flints around, smooth shape so it doesn't snag on pockets or whatever, and best of all: it has never let me down.- dukdalf
