    The trouble with "divorcing" ourselves from cigarette smokers is that THEY are the ones that make it possible for upscale cigars and pipe tobacco to exist! How many tobacco growers (and companies) would stay in business by catering only to the "carriage trade"? Not many.

    I try to burn every last bit of tobacco in the bowl. I think this insures against a pipe going "sour" because the moisture is evaporated instead of soaking into the heel of the pipe.     Oom Pauls may look kewl, but they are more trouble than they are worth, IMO. For me, that goes for anything more than a half-bent. I like to get a pipe cleaner thru the stem, all the way to the bowl. If I can't, I'm annoyed with the pipe.

    Methinks you are concerned about nothing. The cold virus becomes inert after several hours in dry air. I wouldn't hesitate smoking a normally cleaned pipe that has had time to dry out.
