    What a corncob pipe :/

It sounds like YOUR mistake... for not telling your sister to get Missouri Meerschaum pipes. :D I've never had a MM pipe burn out like that. As for the Chinese copying them, they'd have to raise the special corn hybrid that MM uses to get a tough, woody cob suitable for pipes. Yes, I've heard...

Pot of beans, warm fire and a smoke.

Tommy, Mexican cornbread is an option! So is cracklin' cornbread. Can't find real cracklin's (neighborhood butcher shops are long gone)? A substitute would be to crush fried pork rinds you get at the store in the chips section and mix them into the cornbread batter. :-) P.S.: I never tried...

    Birthday present from my dad

mlaug's tips are good. I'd add: Remove the cooled bowl after each smoke and soak up any moisture inside the gourd with a tissue. Allow to air dry before replacing bowl. (overnight at least)

Pot of beans, warm fire and a smoke.

Tommy, I don't know where you are but here in West Texas we had an identical "80 to 8" in 2 days. And as a matter of fact, I did cook up a pot of red beans (what we call pintos) yesterday (salt pork is NOT optional, and we've always used rain water to soak overnight, drain, and cook in more rain...

    Favorite Shape

max's Caminetto looks VERY nice! I'd probably like it. My faves tend to be straight or quarter-bent pipes that easily take a pipecleaner all the way to the bowl. Dublins, authors, saddle-bit billiards, lovats, generally more-or-less traditional shapes.

    Whats up with "friends"

It would be a lot easier if they put a "Add as Friend" link under each poster's picture at the forum (like "Send Private Message" is there already). What's the alphabet for on the Members page? I'd think clicking on "J" would bring up a list of all the members names that start with J, but no...

    When to sweeten?

You are doing about what I do, but I swab the smoke channel with a dry pipe cleaner as soon as I dump the last ashes and then leave another clean pipe cleaner in the pipe until it fully cools down (about an hour). Remove it and a final cleaner thru it (with sweetner optional), and it's ready to...

wolfscout, where did you find that "Keep on Smokin'" Santa? It looks like it should be in a B&M window. It's great!

Meerschaum after 1 week of coloring

WOW! Yep, that must be a record! I've had a couple of meers for over 10 years and they have only turned pink around the rim like yours... NOTHING like yours on the bottom! If I were you, I'd send it off to a meer specialist like NightOwl or Norwood. I haven't had to use them, but had their...

What is your current favourite Peterson Pipe?

The only Pete in my rotation is a 120 Irish Army like ohin3 ordered. It's great! My favorite Pete would probably be any of them with a fishtail and non-system. I tried the system and P-lips and don't care for them at all.

A Primer on Peterson Pipes - By Chuck Wright

I'm smoking my Pete 120 Irish Army right now, and it's a good smoke! I had previously been turned off by Petersons as the only two I had were both Systems and had the P-lip. (I still don't care for those.) But I'm glad I finally discovered "conventional" Petersons. Good smokers and a great...

Bad Experiences With Another Pipe Smoker?

Maybe someone just gave the guy a bowlfull of Mixture #79? :P If I may ask Bubba... why do you take your name-tag off? Were you told to do this? Does the hotel not wish to have its employees seen smoking? Next will be wearing a Nixon mask.

The Latest Garbage & Lies from the Surgeon General

If the loonies believed the garbage in the 2006 S.G. report, then why won’t they believe this latest garbage? Interesting (but NOT surprising) the current S.G. comes from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation which is an arm of Johnson & Johnson (who is in direct competition with the tobacco...

I am trying to post a picture of Bobby Kennedy here with a pipe..HELP!

Uppman (sic) petites were "non-Cuban" cigars? Not from what I have heard. It's an old story that JFK sent press secretary Pierre Salinger around the Washington D.C. area to buy all the CUBAN H. Upmann petites he could lay his hands on, the night before signing the Cuban trade embargo.
