Nothing is like Stonehaven - definitely not ODF. That said, it's not my favorite. I can just see why people who love it, love it. Two 14 Year Old Pipe Smokers.
NYC is still nice enough, just pricey. De La Concha was a good pipe shop, but it's been replaced by a Davidoff which I've not visited. If I had visited it in the 50s, I'd probably have a different opinion, but I'm of a rather younger generation and enjoy the West Village. Hudson Bar and Books...- fishingandpipes

Dunhill Bamboo Bruyere
I was reading an article somewhere recently which I assuredly will never find again that seemed to indicate the Whangee (bamboo shank pipe) was made in Dunhill during WWII due to a briar shortage, or some such. Less briar used if you don't need a shank on the thing. I wonder if that's true.- fishingandpipes

Your High Dollar Artisan Pipes: Display Only? Or Smoke Away?

You smoked too hot in the bottom of the bowl. It's hard not to do that with a new bowl. The layer of briar between the draft hole and the wall is very thin there as it comes to an angle where the draft hole emerges. That's a very very common area to get some char, which is what that is.
