Color me surprised, but there it is. Good for them.
Fixed thread title, please see rule number 9. Pertinent portion: Please capitalize words in the thread titles. Thank you, Robert.

Well, at least they salvaged some of it so far: at least the stuff between the previous crash and Nov 2013. There's a good bit of historical material lost in these crashes that isn't in existence anywhere else, and with several of the experts who contributed having passed away, is probably gone for good.

Was your thread title a play on words? I thought it was kinda "punny"..... as in a funny pun.
Completely unintentional. I didn't want a fully typed site address of another forum to resolve into a link on this one so abbreviated it, is all.
I didn't notice the phonetic humor until someone pointed it out.

A shell of it's former self since the first crash, only got worse from there. They have not learned a thing and used to have an abundance of supportive and contributing members. It's a shame really! I owe most of my pipe smoking knowledge to that place.

They were the first pipe site I hung around at back in the day. There was some great info and I did some great trades out of there, along with buying tobacco. It was a shell of itself even before this latest crash. No idea what this latest crash is going to do to it.

When the power and backup power failed in one of data center halls it shut down the SF server and many others abruptly, that in turned corrupted the files. For a very short time it looked like SF was back on line but the corruption was to deep and as you are aware SF went off line with an error. We have been checking the backups to find one that would work.
We have rebuilt the server today and after checking through our archives we found a full and complete version of a SF backup which we have now re-installed, the date of the backup was late November 2013, at least we do not need to start from scratch, it has been a very long day getting this done.
There are a lot of posts and members missing but at least this is a start and better than having to re-create everything, We have had a word with the data center and let them know our feelings, to which they are going to install an automatic fool proof backup system for free.
The above is from the admin at SF. This crash was not their fault, but was caused by the failure of power supplies as well as back up power supplies at the place that host the site.
