Ebay Clean May Not be Clean

Well, it only took 40ish pipe cleaners get the pipe clean. Miraculously, that also took away the old tobacco smell from the pipe, so maybe there wont be as much of a ghosting issue. Thank you all for your input.

Incredibly new to the hobby - problems with bite

Welcome to the pipe community. The suggestions mentioned above are all spot on. Trust each of the wonderful folks here and give yourself time and space to learn. I know that I was guilty of trying to rush everything about pipe smoking, even the learning process. Relax as much as you can. Ask all...

    Made Pipe #41, The Gremlin

That is truly an unique pipe. I would agree that it is not my cup of tea; however, great job making a pipe that the owner loves. One of the things I love about the pipe hobby is that there is really no right or wrong. This thing called pipe smoking is about enjoying what you do smoke and smoking...

Ebay Clean May Not be Clean

Well, tonight I learned a valuable lesson; just because an ebay seller tells you that they have cleaned an estate pipe and that it is ready for smoking, it does not mean that they actually fully cleaned a the pipe. Recently I won and auction for an estate Dr. Grabow freehand (by the way got this...

    Resmoking My First Pipe

Mso489 sorry for the confusion, it was a HIS briar pipe that I was referring to (the third pipe I had purchased). The brylon was indeed the first pipe I purchased and smoked. It did get very hot and was hard to hold; however, it took a lot of abuse before I retired it after losing the stem. In...

    Resmoking My First Pipe

Today I decided to smoke the first briar pipe I ever bought. At the time I had one brylon and one corncob pipe and had been smoking a pipe for a little over two months. Eventually I quit smoking it because it just was not a good pipe. It burnt hot, required to many relights and was just not that...

What Music are you Listening To? (July 2016)

I have found that adding a bluetooth speaker to my pipe time is magical. As to what I am am listening to, Volbeat's new album and really enjoying Battleship Chains.

    Absence of "Room Note"

Build a small wall to act as a wind break and smoke next to it; I have found that when I cut down the amount of wind I still get a bit of the room note. Also, I have learned to breath in, through my nose, ever so softly when I exhale my pipe smoke to get a whiff of the pipe smoke in the...

    Great Gentlemen!

A pipe, a thought and a discussion. Often I take a hour out of my day to smoke a pipe, think upon life, and read the many varied discussions that happen on this site. Sometimes the posts teach me, other times they amuse me and once in a while they really upset me; however, they all cause me to...

    Maybe A New Pipe Lover

For the last few days I have been on vacation with my family. After three days of having no place to smoke (I wish we would have been able to find a pipe friendly hotel) I decided to sit out in the parking lot and enjoy my pipe. Well about a half hour into my smoking session I noticed a man come...

The End of a Bowl Being Better

One of the pure joys in my life is when I get to the last 25 or so percent of a bowl of tobacco and suddenly the flavor really comes alive. Don't get me wrong, there has been a great flavor for the entirety of the smoke; however, for some reason that last bit is just heavenly. The question I...

    The Number Is One

I know what you mean there. My favorite part of any bowl is the last 25% because the flavor just seems to come alive. I can not count the number of times I have been enjoying that last portion of the bowl, get frustrated because I can not keep it lit, give up and dump out the ash and dottle only...

    The Number Is One

I want to make sure that everyone who reads this understands that I am not saying there are jv and varsity pipe smokers. My use of that verbiage was meant to be a metaphor for how I personally felt. I would never denigrate anyone for the type of tobacco, the kind of pipe or how they smoke. I...

    The Number Is One

Well, today was a banner day for me because for the first time ever I had a smoking session of wonderful awesomeness known as only one relight. I know that one should not worry about relighting their pipe; however, smoking a bowl of my favorite tobacco with only one relight truly made me feel...

What Can I Do With This Stuff?

I second, well actually by this time I would say I am thirding or fourthing (or whatever the count is), the idea of buying some rolling papers and handing it out to people you see panhandling and smoking. On occasion I will see a panhandler who is smoking and go buy them a pouch of tops or...

    More Then One Bowl

Personally, I do not like the way that a pipe smokes and tastes when I have smoked more than one bowl a day in it....unless it is a cob then I will smoke multiple bowls with no ill effects on taste.

Back to the Pipe (Why did I leave???)

Well, after spending some time away from the sacred pipe I am back. I am not sure why I ever left, accept I had gotten into a rut of dipping which left no time for pipe because it was easier just to put in a dip; however, I finally got tired of the spit cups around the house, the bad breath, the...
