Do I Really Need A Cob?

I'm not currently smoking cobs but I do keep a couple around for curious visitors who want to try pipe smoking. I have a few Andrew Jackson hardwood pipes for the same reason. People seem to go for the cobs.

Tobacco Cessation Program and a Rant.

I don't think its technology that is the problem here. It's the phenomenon of the increase of collectivization in America. Things you did yesterday that only hurt you back in the day now affect everybody today. No longer is your unhealthy lifestyle just your problem, it's making life more...

Ebay Clean May Not be Clean

It's always "buyer beware" on the bay. This pipe was listed as being in good condition and a perfect Father's Day present:

    Restoration advice please

Start with the least aggressive method possible. I use sablebrush52's method, sometimes soaking one of those green Scotchbrite pads with coffee, placing it on a flat surface and gently rotating the rim on it. After most of the crud is off you can switch to saliva soaked cotton makeup pads. The...

Tobacco Cessation Program and a Rant.

A non-smoking pharmacist I know who gives tobacco cessations classes was herself ordered to go through three months of nicotine rehab after testing positive. She had chewed a piece of nicotine gum for a few seconds during one of her classes to see what they tasted like, then spit it out. She had...

    I'm Liking My Dr Plumb

didimauw, It's a handy little belt knife by Western Cutlery. Blade size is 3". I've had it as long as I can remember, maybe late 70's. It dates before the Coleman takeover of Western.

    I'm Liking My Dr Plumb

scrooge, I'd say if you have had good luck with GBDs you would like a Dr Plumb. The one I just posted above has the GBD shape number 1352 stamped on it which is a half bent apple with a round stem.

    RMV Brand Pipe

I've seen a few pipes on ebay stamped "RMV" and "Nutley N.J." on them. One seller says they were carved by a tobacco store owner in that New Jersey city. He got his briar from Spain and sold his pipes out of that store. I can't find anything via Google to substantiate that information. Anyway...

    Aesthetics Question Survey

I like mid-century modern American factory made pipes, give or take ten years on either side. As far as art, I like my paintings Renaissance and my music Baroque.

Show Off Your LHS Pipes Here

I just added this Purex Superfine to my collection. After a bit of cleaning and refinishing work, I took it for test smoke this evening. Works admirably. I was surprised that stinger on this pipe goes 2/3 the length of the shank. Still has a good draw.

Kirsten Pride... Show Me Your Kirstens!

jonasclark, I love getting more information! What if it has an O-ring on the valve but not on the stem? The bottom has a marking, "MADE IN USA -K" So these pipes are still have production runs, yes? I saw that is so on the Kirsten Web Page but no prices are listed. Has anybody bought a new...

    Rogue One: Feminist Revistionist Crap

Suspension of disbelief counts for something in rating a movie, even in regard to fantasy/science fiction. I have no problem with females playing parts requiring combat and physical strength as long as they are cast appropriately, which they typically are not. Instead we see supermodels with...

    Pleasant Suprise Movies

"Departures" or "Okuribito" as it is called in Japanese. It won and Oscar for best foreign language film in 2009, yet almost nobody I know has seen it. One of the most moving, gentle and humorous movies I've ever watched.
