jonasclark,
I love getting more information!
What if it has an O-ring on the valve but not on the stem?
The bottom has a marking, "MADE IN USA -K"
So these pipes are still have production runs, yes? I saw that is so on the Kirsten Web Page but no prices are listed. Has anybody bought a new one? If so, How much are they?

Mr. Old, try this from the web page. https://www.kirstenpipe.com/page_pricelist.shtml Put a custom pipe together and add up the sum of the parts. The other page on the site has indications that you need to call (?) them for standard model prices.
I bought a VX last year. I do not remember the price. I think it was $125.
I have 3 so far. A very old S straight, a H 1/4 bent nose warmer, and a 1/4 bent VX.
I do like them. The bottom centered draft hole seems to make burning to the bottom happen without dottle.
Good luck.

I don't think the "create your own pipe" thing still on their website lists what's actually available now. All Kirstens were out-of-production for many years; they had a zillion parts made, and when those began to run out, realized all of the machinists who used to make their parts had retired. They had opened a 2nd store off Denny, but then a rent increase forced closure of the original store. The family decided to shut down the company.
One family member stepped in to run the shop, and she's been trying for a while to get a pipe back into production at a reasonable price. I'm not sure if that has occurred, or is just close to occurring. These were going to be full-bents, I believe. Basic word is, nothing of actual pipes described on the website is for sale now. Best bet is to call the store (I think the owner works on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons) and ask her what's available.
They do have quite a number of bowls, but none of the screws which secure bowl to body; she was trying to get more screws made, too. I know that, if you visit the store, she's been keeping my bowl racks stocked, so you'd have a good selection to look at. They have some other high-end and mid-low briars (including one with a real amber stem), a few basket pipes, some nice pipe tobacco blends, and a humidor. It's a tiny little shop.

Actually, manufacturing is back online, they are slowly ramping up speed but they are being made again. All the parts now as well, including black bowl adapters.
I have three Kirstens, I'll add some photos here of my more unusual ones, but my pride is the engraved Firesider with all original paperwork and box and is currently unsmoked with a briar and meerschaum bowl.

Thanks for the update, Akfilm! I'll have to drop by the shop again!
Snazzy Firesider! I don't see too many that're engraved, and have never seen one with a date. That's one of the 60s bowls; I'd love to locate one of the 90s Turkish-made lattice brandy bowls.

Stacy think her grandpa made this one personally. She wants to see it next time I go to Seattle. It's beautiful piece, super nice finish. The lattice brandy bowl would be fun. I have a couple meerschaum bowls, a rustic and a couple smooths. I have a fun Horizon with a meerschaum bowl that is a regular smoker, and a beat up Mariner that was my first Kirsten. I'll try and snag a family photo...

Does anyone know what Kirstens are back in production? Last I heard, the first run was planned as black Designers (large full-bent) with pedestal valve, and the Lucite stems were supposed to be in gray pearl, brown pearl, black, and black with white trails, but I haven't seen photos of new ones. Are any new bowls in production?
Also: does anyone here have a Kirsten cigarette holder they'd sell? I have a cigar holder, nifty design with a spike inside that holds the cigar in place (smokes nicely, too!).

Stracy Thrasner, was in Chicago Pipe Show back in May, with an array of pipes and although, they did not make a big commercial advertising, Kirstens lovers, emptied her table.
They are back on business, Generation 4th...

Samrvior:
Do you happen to recall pricing from the Chicago Pipe Show?

Anywhere between 129 to 249 more or less. Pending on specific model and bowl material, briar where cheaper than Meerschaum bowls.

Went down today and got me one of the new Kirstens! The one finish I don't own is the brass stem. The new "brass" is sort of a matte gilt, almost a powdercoat finish, which is not at all bad, but not to my taste (I still want a brasstone model, preferably an Esquire!)
Instead, I got a black Designer, pedestal valve, with the white-wisp black stem. I saw a new rusticated, matte-black Mandarin bowl I loved on one of the pipes that was already assembled and sold; while digging through their new bowls for something similar, Stacy handed me an odd one: a slightly shiny sandblast Brandy with a smooth rim which she said was a sort of accident. It was made too large, just barely small enough to fit on a Designer body. One-of-a-kind, black, one of my two favorite shapes-- that's for me!
For those wondering, the current shapes/sizes are:
Straight - I'm not sure, didn't check

Quarter-bent - Horizon (small), Regent (large), Cavalier (medium) may or may not return*

Full-bent - Designer (large)

* Japanese buyers love the Cavalier, she says, so it might come back
Radiator finishes are black (slightly glossy on straight and maybe quarter-bent, definitely matte on full-bent), brasstone (matte gilt), and silver (most are the traditional satin silver, with some being a bit more metallic).
Stem colors are bronze pearl, gloss black, and gloss black with white wispy threads.
I didn't check all prices, but Designers with pedestal valves, any finish, are about $190 with briar bowl and $250 with meerschaum. Meerschaum bowls are being made in Turkey, and they look great; I spoke with the US-side importer. They had a narrow shape, something like an older Kirsten Billiard but taller and a bit wider, and a typically-Kirsten wide, squat rhodesian-like bulldog. I saw billiards in smooth, lattice, and a smooth finish with a grid of small dimples. Bulldogs were in smooth or bottom-half lattice. Lattice is large, deep teardrop shapes with a fine circle pattern background.
They still have lots of vintage briar bowls of all sorts, and vintage unwaxed meerschaum ones cut by Gene Kirsten, many in the 'staghorn' carved look. I saw lots of new briar bowls, including some new taller, thinner bulldog/mandarin types, some smooth bulldogs in a medium color (no bowl coating!) and some bulldogs with all-over or lower-half sandblast. They also have some of those freehand briar bowls, I think the carver's name is Don Warren, sort of tulip-shaped.
Indeed, Kirsten is back on track, and the stuff is sure spiffy.

I should add, having spoken with Stacy yesterday: I've seen a post in which some users complain about how long it's taking to get their orders, and the consensus seemed to be that the new Kirstens aren't worth the wait and the trouble. Here's the thing about that: Stacy is getting slammed with orders, and is at the moment trying to fill just the waiting list she's had (the people who said, "As soon as they're back in production, send me this model/color immediately"), while still getting called-in ads left, right and center. And how many people are taking the pipe orders, assembling pipes, shipping, etc? Just her. So don't be surprised if there are delays, but the pipes look great, the bowls look great, and she's getting things out as fast as she can.
She does still have lots of vintage bowls, and she has loads of new bowls. The billiard-like new bowls are being called a "teardrop," those in both briar and meerschaum. As noted above, there's another new shape, a taller, narrower bulldog shape (closer to the classic narrow bulldog; the usual Kirsten bulldog bowls are closer to a rhodesian shape), and these don't have the two inscribed lines at the widest point. I think they look best on smaller pipes, especially the straight Jewel.
Final confirmation on sizes available: all three straights are in production, Jewel (small), Mariner (medium), Lancer (large). Black straight and quarter-bent is a slightly glossy finish, while full-bent is matte. Silver is the metallic anodized color we're all used to from late-model Kirstens. Brasstone is a very matte, gilt-like finish that looks powdercoated, very much unlike the late-model brasstone but nice. The Cavaler (medium quarter-bent) may return; the Esquire (medium full-bent) might, but probably won't.
Give Stacy lots of leeway on order time, and you'll get good stuff.

Well worth the wait for an awesome piece of quality American engineering. I have a 1/4 bent and a straight (both estates) with another 1/4 bent on the way. I absolutely love Kirsten pipes.
Thanks for the information jonasclark!

Agreed, gsmunoz. Good smokers, easy to load, look cool.
Best way to buy, if at all possible, is to visit the store. Look at the options up close, select a bowl from their huge variety, and get exactly what you want.
