Suspension of disbelief counts for something in rating a movie, even in regard to fantasy/science fiction. I have no problem with females playing parts requiring combat and physical strength as long as they are cast appropriately, which they typically are not. Instead we see supermodels with pencil thin arms bashing the toughest of enemies with heavy swords or mowing them down with miniguns the weight of which no actress and few men could even hold outstretched for half a minute.

Good point. Now the franchise searches for "profundity" in the most hackneyed of places, on a dozen levels, and all of us just want another version of the first movie.

My complaint with mainstream Hollywood movies, is the constant regurgitation of the same ideas and premises. Nowadays Hollywood movies are the equivalent of fast-food, valuing profit over creativity. Not to mention the misinterpretations of "shocking and edgy" into being "vulgar and crass." Needless to say, 90% of the movies I watch and enjoy are 10 to 60 years older than I am.
PC is just a new form of NewsSpeak or Doublespeak. It's control of how you voice a certain opinion. If you say this or that you're a sexist, racist, bigot, etc.,...Boxes: which one will we put you in today.
Cullansghost, I couldn't agree more. The majority of the films I gravitate towards are older than I am. Better to leave some of these new offerings to the younger generation, for which they are intended.

My interest in Star Wars vaporized when Samuel Jackson and that whiny character (Jarjar?) showed up. I quit right then in disgust and have had no interest since. I personally never cared about Luke or the Princess or the comic book Dark Father (Darth Vader) anyway.

Second. The head of the Star Wars franchise and the EP is Kathleen Kennedy..a woman, a woman who has also said she would LOVE to see a female director for a Star Wars film. A female lead is also a numbers game, the majority of movie goers are women (not by much, but it's growing), if you have a market that's growing, and growing rapidly, you'll cater to it. And story is king, it shouldn't matter if it's male, female, white or black etc.
