    Im guessing it’s a 1940. The most valuable detail will be whether or not it says “DUNHILL’S SHELL,” or “DUNHILL SHELL,” lacking the possessive S. Can you tell, or is it faded?

    I’ve had a few Gawith tins fail on me. Opened up a tin of 1792 once covered in mold. Yuck! Also some tins of Ennerdale that were completely dried out. I wrap all of my rectangle tins in plastic wrap now before storing.

    On an ‘86, the equivalent shape code to an old 34 would be a 103, with whatever group size number in front. I think the 34s were smaller, so maybe a 3103 equivalent? I’ll keep my eye out! ?

    Dunhill covers the classics for sure, but let’s not forget the windshield pipe, or their Christmas pipes with themes, or their Dalmatian pipe, etc. They do explore all sorts of avenues in addition to keeping with the classics!

    The helpful experts have already chimed in, but I’ll just add that McClelland in my memory always had a bit of a shake sound, and the smell is usually pungent enough that if there were any small leaks, you’d probably be able to get a whiff of the contents.
