Yeah, I think you guys are right in your theorizing: that's essentially what I had been thinking. Well, the thing is, when I smoked it in my filtered pipes sans filter, I had no idea they were wet! Tonquin/Tonkin bean flavour.
Topping wise, they aren't much alike. I can't detect any Tonquin in Dark Flake (though it may certainly be there in a small amount), it seems to be overwhelmingly Oil of Bergamot. This is something I've noticed with my pipes: All of my unfiltered pipes tend to gurgle when I smoke wet, aromatic blends in them. Some even do so with middle-of-the-road blends. Escudo vs Dunhill DNR
I'm curious: do we know how old the tins we are buying are? For example, I'd guess there are many tins in a tobacco warehouse that are 6 months to even a year old? I didn't even get the burper joke at first. I sometimes get the burps as opposed to hiccups with strong tobacco, so I figured it must be referring to the strength of the blend at first. That sounds like a tasty blend, though.- beastinview

Thanks--I looked on their website the other day, but couldn't seem to locate the twists. I was using a proxy server, though, because some alcohol/tobacco sites are blocked at work. Turns out I just needed to use search function. As you say, all are labeled as Dark-Fired Virginia.- beastinview

Do You Back Away From Mild Tobacco?
I tend to either be in the mood for a mild aromatic or a really strong, substantial smoke. I often enjoy aromatics like 1Q, BCA, Black Seas Red, etc.--or it's Irish Flake , G&H Ropes, SG 1792, Royal Yacht, G&H Dark Flake. It's actually the in between that doesn't get a lot of love from me.- beastinview
